SEASON UPDATE

The AdamBots recently competed at the Queen City Regional in Cincinnati, Ohio from March 31st through April 2nd. The regional was a lot of fun, and we had a chance to meet teams from all over the United States and abroad that we normally would not see, including a team from Japan, and one from Canada. The regional was also a great success for our team because, after a long and hard fight, we qualified for the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri!

On the first day of the event, Thursday, March 31st, we competed in practice matches and had many opportunities to perform maintenance on our robot and perfect our strategy. One of our mentors, Mrs. Sochanski, created a fun scavenger hunt for AdamBots to do in the morning, allowing us to meet and interact with all the different teams.

On the second day of the event, Friday, April 1st, we competed in our first seven qualification matches. We had one of the highest scoring matches of the day at 136 points, and we also had multiple matches in which we earned 4 ranking points. At the end of the day, we were ranked 12th!

On the final day of competition, Saturday, April 2nd, we completed our last three qualification matches in the morning and competed in the playoffs in the afternoon. At the end of the qualifications matches, we were ranked 2nd. We became the captains of the second alliance and chose Team 868, the TechHOUNDS, and Team 4256, the Cyborg Cats, as our alliance partners.

We qualified for the semifinals after winning our quarterfinal matches against the seventh alliance with scores 165-132 and 169-104. We moved on to the finals after winning our semifinal matches 129-112 and 173-121. The finals were tougher because we lost our first finals match, 123-155. However, we focused on breaching the defenses and weakening the tower in the next match, and we won 160-117. In the final match of the Queen City Regional, we won 177-130, becoming the winning alliance and qualifying for the FIRST World Championships in St. Louis! In addition to winning the competition, we also won the Entrepreneurship Award due to the hard work and dedication of our talented Business Plan Team!

During the rest of this month, we have been busy preparing for the World Championships. We performed repairs and updates on Valencia before loading the robot into the crate to be shipped to St. Louis.

We are extremely excited to be traveling to St. Louis on Tuesday, April 26th for this
amazing event! Our team will be competing on the Galileo field again this year. Follow our progress on social media and on our team blog. Additionally, watch our matches live at the FIRST Live Stream

MICHIGAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Although the AdamBots did not qualify for the Michigan State Championship this year, one of our students, Megan Sochanski, traveled to Grand Rapids as a Dean's List Finalist from the Center Line District Event. Megan was selected as a Dean's List Finalist at the Michigan Championships, and she will be competing for this distinction at the World Championship this week!
