From the Office of Parent and Family Relations

Spring is a time of transition, as the weather in Colorado shifts from cold and snowy to a more mild pattern. The beginning of Block 8 ushers in another transition, as we prepare to say "farewell" to the Class of 2016 and anticipate saying "welcome" to the Class of 2020. Here are a couple of "nuts and bolts" notes as the end of the year approaches. Whether your student is returning to CC in the fall or is preparing for their transition to "life after CC," I hope they will have some time this summer for refreshment and relaxation and that you will be able to find time together to reconnect.

As always, please feel welcome to be in touch with questions or concerns.

COMMENCEMENT 2016

"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."Howard Thurman
Colorado College Class of 2016 Motto

Commencement exercises for the Class of 2016 will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Make plans now to join us for a full weekend of activities, which include the Commencement Dance on Saturday, May 14, at 8 p.m. and Baccalaureate on Sunday, May 15, at 3 p.m. The schedule, lodging information, and ordering information are available here. Formal invitations for families of students who are expected to graduate were mailed in March. If you have not yet received your invitation, please let us know.

Baccalaureate Blessings
Baccalaureate Blessings are a special part of the graduation tradition for Colorado College students. Each year, parents and families of graduating seniors are mailed an invitation to participate in creating Baccalaureate Blessings cards for their student. Each card hangs throughout Commencement Weekend in the west entrance of Shove Chapel, displaying words of celebration for graduating seniors. Together, these cards form a communal blessing, sharing both individual and collective love and hope for the graduates as they journey forth from Colorado College. Watch the mail for your opportunity to participate! If you have any questions about the program, please contact the Chaplains' Office.

SIMPLIFIED ACCOUNT ACCESS!

We have simplified access to our tuition payment and Gold Card management systems by making them part of Colorado College's "Single Sign In" portal. To access the portal, and the icons pictured at left, go to the black footer at the bottom of any CC webpage and click "Sign Into CC." Please remember that parents or guardians wishing to access the tuition payment system require student permission via the student's authorized user process. Parents or guardians do not need to register to make deposits to a student's Gold Card.

THE BUTLER CENTER AWARDS BANQUET

On April 23, students, faculty and staff came together at the Antlers Hotel to celebrate The Butler Center Awards Banquet. This much-anticipated event included recognizing the service and achievements of several members of the Colorado College community through awards named after key figures in the college’s history. Read more here about the award recipients for the 2015-2016 academic year. The Butler Center will host a Senior Stoling Ceremony on May 11where graduating seniors from Butler Groups will receive special stoles representing their group membership.

TUTT LIBRARY TRANSFORMATION

As the 2015-16 academic year comes to a close, CC is gearing up for a major library renovation project that will transform the look of the campus and shape the educational experiences for students into the future. During the next 15 months of construction, in true CC fashion, we will shake things up and demonstrate our flexibility, creativity and commitment to learning. Throughout the library renovation, your students will be able to access all of the library and academic support services now housed in Tutt Library. Students can request books through an online portal for daily pick-up at a temporary library location in the South Tutt building, which will remain open during much of the project. All other support services will operate as usual, just in different locations. Students will have additional study space on campus in new and unexpected places, including individual carrels for our senior thesis writers. View library floor plans and renderings, along with information about our transitional year.

SUMMER PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAM

Has your CC student's sibling ever expressed an interest in following in their sister's or brother's footsteps? The Summer Pre-College Program is a great opportunity to see whether or not CC and the Block Plan will be the "right fit" while also earning college credit. Open to rising high school juniors and seniors, students have the option of taking one of the regular summer block classes or the new, shorter Pre-College Block. In addition to taking a course for college credit, students participate in robust co-curricular programming designed to support their holistic growth such as hikes in the Rocky Mountains, community service opportunities, arts and performance. Read more here about opportunities for your student.

Although there is no substitute for experiencing an event in person, it is not always possible for parents and family members to come to campus. Many events are available via live stream or on demand. See the calendar of upcoming events and plan to join us...virtually!
