Saying goodbye to Freddy and Pumba
About 50 people gathered at the barn on Saturday, April 23 to say goodbye to Freddy and Pumba, as we celebrated their retirement from Lancers.
Freddy and Pumba faithfully served as Lancer school horses for over 20 years and taught thousands of riders invaluable lessons in discipline, love and respect. They will each be retiring to suitable homes in the country where they will have access to pasture and continue to be cared for.

Musical Ride Sign Up
The Musical Ride sign up sheet is now in the lobby. Please sign up by April 29th as there are limited spots left to fill.
Riders in rides 1 to 5 who will still be Junior members with Lancers in the Fall may sign up for the Musical Ride. Riders in ride 4 and 5 will be be assigned as spare riders, in the event someone needs to miss a practice/performance, unless we don’t otherwise have sufficient numbers to make up the ride.
Practices will take place on weekend evenings until school is out, after which they will take place on Wednesday afternoons throughout the summer. Please only sign up if you can commit to these ride times. There are no fees associated with participating in the musical ride.
Summer Horse Shows Info Session
There will be an information session on Saturday, May 7 at 1:00 pm (at Lancers) for Lancer riders and their parents who are interested in learning more about off-property horse shows taking place this summer. Parents of riders, and riders themselves, who wish to compete in off-property shows should attend this session.
Salmon River Camp Registration Open
The Salmon River Camp registration process is now open. If you are interested in attending this week long camp -
which is open to Lancer members only - ages 10-18, please go to the Lancers office to fill out the application form and provide a deposit of $150.00. Please choose which week you wish to attend, either August 15-19, or August 22-26th. Note that younger riders are able to attend if their parent attends as a chaperone.
Juniors will ride twice a day in the outdoor ring and also on trails as well as enjoy games, crafts and the camp experience. The facility in Salmon River (past Truro) is home to approximately 230 acres of cross country trails and will provide a great camp experience for both riders and Lancer horses, which will be transported there prior to the camp starting.
The fee for one week is $500.00 per person which is due on August 1st, plus the deposit of $150.00

Summer Camp Registration Underway
Lancers is offering six summer camps for those new to the equestrian sport or for those who have previously attended camp and want to come back for more.
The camps run from 8-5 pm, for four weeks in July and two weeks in August and are targeted to girls and boys aged 7-13, with some or no riding experience.
Enrollment is limited and classes are already filing up. The first and last week of July, and the last week of August are already booked. Please tell interested friends to go to our
website and fill out an application form today to secure their child's spot! Camps are $300.00 for one week and require a $50.00 non-refundable deposit.
Rider Level Testing Update
38 Lancer riders completed their rider levels (four more are waiting to do their Level 7 testing). It is very gratifying to see how much effort our riders are putting into the testing process. Special thanks to Belinda Maier for taking the time to evaluate so many riders, and the NSEF for helping us every step along the way!
Doors Open Halifax
Several Lancer members have indicated their interest in volunteering at the Doors Open Halifax event to be held on June 4 & 5th from 10-4 pm. This event is hosted by The Doors Open Heritage Society, and will see buildings in Halifax and area open their doors to the public for free and invite the public to view interiors not usually accessible. Lancers is excited to be opening its barn doors as part of this event.
