Early Summertime Farm News

Dear Farm Friends,

We are ready, excited, and right on the cusp of the new summer season. Due to the crew’s hard work over the last several months, the fields are bursting with greens, broccoli, cabbage, and even zucchini! With the winter shares winding down, and the summer shares starting so soon, I encourage you all to sign up if you haven’t already. We have incredible abundance that we need to share, and we need your support!

This week on the farm we are continuing to plant large sections of the fields with another wave of tomatoes (the early ones are flowering and flourishing in their high tunnels – you should see Sungold cherry tomatoes in about a month and red tomatoes soon after that), melons, winter squashes, and cucumbers.

This year we are bringing back our farm festival and doing it in June instead of in the fall. We are putting extra effort into this year’s festival, and there will be some fun new events like a real fire breathing dragon (my boys and I visit this creature every year at the Nevada City Children’s Festival and have become quite fond of it) and contra dancing. Of course we will also have the usual farm tours, good food and drink, kids activities and traditional vegetable piñata. So mark your calendars: June 26.
