End of Year Move Out

Keep your eyes open for an email next week with all of the end of year move out information you need. The residence halls will close at 5PM on Friday, June 10th, and students are expected to leave within 24 hours of their last final exam. Students will sign up for a checkout appointment with an RA and have their room inspected after items are moved out, room is cleaned, and before a key is turned in. If you are participating in graduation you may request to stay past 5PM Friday, June 10th, until no later than noon on Saturday, June 11th, via the Late Stay Application.

Click “Active Housing Applications” off your MyUHDS and select the Late Stay Application at the top under “Applications”.

Please note that all requests are not granted.

Sign Up to Help in the Campus Garden

If you love gardening or want to get hands-on experience growing organic vegetables, you can now sign up to help with the Callahan Food Forest.

The Callahan Food Forest, located on the south side of Callahan Hall, is a collaboration between UHDS, the Department of Crop and Soil Science, and the Organic Growers Club. Plans are underway for the Food Forest to expand, adding an additional garden area east of McNary Dining Center. If you’d like to be a part of the Food Forest, add your name to the e-mail list and get informed about work parties and other opportunities here.

Waste Study Participants Wanted

Attention students! We are conducting a qualitative research study about campus food waste and we could use your help. Participants in this study will take and submit photos of their personal food waste, one photo for each meal and snack during Week 8 of the term.  Then, during Week 9 or 10, participants will view a slideshow of the study photos and complete an open-ended survey. Data will be used to help UHDS with marketing and operational efforts to reduce food waste.

To qualify for this study you must be a UHDS resident. A maximum of 15 participants will be randomly selected from among those who express interest. Participants who complete both parts of the study will be entered into a drawing for prizes.

To apply to participate in this study, send an e-mail to sarah.cunningham@oregonstate.edu by 5PM on Wednesday, May 11th.  Your e-mail should include your name, phone number, and the UHDS dining center where you eat most frequently.

Deadline Extended for Ramadan Meal Program

Students who will be observing Ramadan this June can sign up for the UHDS Ramadan Meal Program to meet, gather and break fast nightly in community together. The deadline to sign up for Ramadan meals has been extended to May 20th. UHDS is also providing prayer space during Ramadan.

Visit our International Student Page   for more information. Please fill out the Meal Participation Survey by May 20th if you would like to participate.

Move-Out Donation Drive Coming Soon

It may seem early to think about moving out, but it isn’t. Many residents find that they have more stuff in their room than can fit in their ride home. And making decisions on what to keep is hard when you’re taking finals!

Tips for what you can do now:

  1. Visiting home? Bring some of your belongings home with you.

  2. Donate unwanted clothing using the bin in your laundry room.

  3. Eat the food you have before buying more.

In three weeks, donation bins will be placed on your hall’s ground floor and you will receive a move-out kit on your door. Learn more here.

Please note: you must move out of your residence hall by 5PM June 10, 2016. Find a move-out guide here. Click to request a late stay.

Share Your Secrets via PostSecret U

Frank Warren, founder of PostSecret, will be speaking to campus on May 10th, 6-8PM, at LaSells Stewart Center. The OSU community is encouraged to share their secrets via PostSecret U, a campus-based community art project. The secrets will be on display throughout the event. Look for designated drop boxes and tables in the quad to drop off your anonymous secrets until May 6th.
