Hacking human rights, we did it!

Imagine a world where human rights violations could be documented with higher proof of certainty: this is what our five teams of hackers, including the Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands and the former Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen, worked on 26-27 February at DiploHack Geneva

In 48 hours, the teams not only found a way to improve the use of limited resources to verify human rights violations, but also created an evidence collection and transportation tool ready for the field. These results were presented during the high level side event to the 31st session of the Human Rights Council by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Bert Koenders, and Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Kate Gilmore.

Read more about the event here.

Last but not least, we would like to thank our partners, Impact Hub Geneva, the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands, and True Heroes Films for sharing this incredible experience with us!

Using open data to innovate healthcare: Open Geneva Hackathon @ Campus Biotech

Six teams joined "Open Geneva Hackathon 2016" for a non stop 60-hour hackathon on open data and healthcare on April 16-18 organised by HUG, The Geneva Creativity Centre, SITG, TPG, Citizen Cyberlab and THE Port. The challenging topics spanned from forecasting emergencies, to online hospital registration, improved navigation for visual impairment, preventing suicide by tech-assisted means, managing health data and creating a sensor sock for babies with clubfoot.

Read more about each topic here.

The results have been presented as side events in two different occasions: the Geneva Health Forum 2016, and on the 25th Anniversary of the SITG. Photos.

THE Port hackathon lands on TEDx!

THE Port President, Ines Knaepper, was invited to speak at TEDx Lausanne in February. She presented the adventure of THE Port and how we aim to make a difference through our hackathons

Here is Ines' thought about the experience:
"Being a speaker at TEDxLausanne was one of the greatest, but also one of the most exhausting experiences I have ever came across. But I highly recommend to go through it as I have learned a lot. One advise though: make sure, you have a great and understanding team backing you up during the preparation time!”
