Dear <<First Name>>
No doubt, we caused quite a stir when we announced that MindAfrica would be hosting a Zumbathon on the 23rd of April. The question I kept getting was “what’s a Zumbathon”? A Zumbathon is an extended Zumba event that is a fundraiser for a charitable cause.
More and more, the traditional sources of funding are falling short and not-for-profits need to be more creative in fundraising. Faced with rising costs, increased competition for fewer grants and donations, not to mention the upsurge of for-profit companies promoting social causes outside their core business interests, MindAfrica is seeking additional funding avenues by thinking outside the box to develop creative sustainable ideas that give us competitive advantage in these economic times.
In the coming months, we are looking at increased partnerships with for-profit companies to leverage opportunities and embark on more initiatives that will deliver social value to our constituencies through innovative funding options.
So, what’s the link between MindAfrica’s social services and Zumba fitness, you might be asking? Firstly, we wanted to raise awareness and funding for our programs through a more creative approach and secondly, we wanted to give our donors a relaxing break and the opportunity to interact with us on a more personal level. Thanks to Bodyboost Fitness and Health Club for partnering with us on this project, it was totally awesome as you will see from the PHOTOS. We raised quite a bit of cash too through the sale of tickets and hand-made items at the event.
All proceeds from the Zumbathon will fund out-of-school enrichment programs for disadvantaged children and youth beginning with Girls in ICT on the 28th of April which will empower 120 secondary school girls. So keep watching out for more details and I look forward to seeing you at the next Zumbathon!
My best wishes,
Olere Iluebbey
