God's Storehouse

Raise the Roof Update

We are very close to our goal!  You have generously donated $710 toward our goal of $1,000 which is one of our Operation Inasmuch projects.  It will take just 29 more hands to reach our goal – we can do it!  The project was supposed to end 4/24, but we are so close!  The ultimate goal of God’s Storehouse is $50,000 – let’s try to help them out in their effort to replace their roof.  The hand shingles are available – please see Lisa or contact Karen Kranz.

Backpack Food Ministry  - Food Needed!

We are winding down, but the shelves are bare after each week of packing.  May 5th will be 100 bags that will need to be packed – come join us for a great fellowship hour & bring the children to witness God’s love for children less fortunate than some of us.  One social worker tells how the children request the bag that Living Springs packs – full of interesting goodies that show a little extra love!  She said to some of her children, this is like Christmas!  Thank you for your continued support – we are in need of all items.  For information, contact Karen Kranz.

Greatest Story Bible Study

Continues this Sunday @ 6:30 pm

Everyone is invited to join us as we resume our study about the ministry and writings of Paul.

MOTHER’S DAY @ RICE ESTATE

Saturday, May 7

In keeping with the tradition, we will be honoring all the women at the Rice Estate with a flower in a bud vase on the Saturday before Mother’s Day (May 7).  We will meet in the administration building and commute to the Rice Estate at 10:00 am (or meet us at Rice Estate). The folks at Rice Estate especially enjoy the cards that the preschool children create and love when the children deliver them in person, so an invitation goes out to all our parents with small children to come join us for a very rewarding experience.  If anyone has bud vases, we would greatly appreciate them.  Contact Karen Kranz for information.

Also, take part in bringing in your wedding picture to put into a Bride’s Gallery to share that day. We truly have brides of all ages and it is always fun to see and share. Lessons for Sunday, May 1

First Reading: Acts 16:9-15

A vision compels Paul to move his ministry into Greece. There he meets Lydia, an important person in the business community, whose heart has been opened by God to receive the gospel. Her conversion and baptism provide the impetus for the founding of the church at Philippi.

Psalm 67

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy. (Ps. 67:4)

Second Reading: Revelation 21:10, 22--22:5

John’s vision of a new Jerusalem coming out of heaven provides continuity with God’s past actions. Yet in this new city, God’s presence replaces the temple, and the glory of God and the Lamb supplant sun and moon.

Gospel: John 14:23-29

As Jesus talks of returning to the Father, he promises to send the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who will teach Jesus’ followers and remind them of all that Jesus taught. Even more, those in whom God makes a home will experience a peace that overcomes fear.

Church Humor...

Two buddies, Chris and John, were two of the biggest baseball fans in America. For their entire adult lives, Chris and John discussed baseball history in the winter and they pored over every box score during the season.

They went to 60 games a year. They even agreed that whoever died first would try to come back and tell the other if there was baseball in heaven.

One summer night, Chris passed away in his sleep after watching the Yankee victory earlier in the evening. He died happy. A few nights later, his buddy John awoke to the sound of Chris's voice from beyond. "Chris is that you?" John asked. "Of course it's me," Chris replied.

"This is unbelievable!" John exclaimed. "So tell me, is there baseball in heaven?"

"Well I have some good news and some bad news for you. Which do you want to hear first?"
"Tell me the good news first."

"Well, the good news is that, yes, there is baseball in heaven, John."

"Oh, that is wonderful! So what could possibly be the bad news?"

"You're pitching tomorrow night."

Do you have some church humor you'd like to share? We would love to share it too! Send your humor to Lisa in the office.
