Yellowstone Newsletter

from Granite Peak Publications

April 2016

Here's the latest about our Yellowstone books, graced with a sketch of Grotto and Rocket Geysers that Welshman Thomas H. Thomas painted into his sketchbook in 1884 and we've reproduced in Through Early Yellowstone. Feel free to forward this news! To unsubscribe, see the link at the end of this message.

Park news

Yellowstone bison and grizzly bears have both been in the news lately. The first bison calves of 2016 were spotted this month, but the ongoing culling of bison is still controversial. Grizzlies have been out of hibernation about two months, and the U.S. government has proposed removing the grizzly from the Endangered Species list. You can read some good news about bison in author Janet Chapple's recent blog post, "Yellowstone bison get room to roam at last." If, as we did, you missed the recent extra-long set of free admission days for National Park Week April 16-24 in honor of the National Park Service centennial this year, you have another chance August 25-28, when numerous special events are planned.

Early reviews of our new book

Several endorsements and reviews have already come in for Through Early Yellowstone: Adventuring by Bicycle, Covered Wagon, Foot, Horseback, and Skis, with historic travel accounts selected and annotated by Janet Chapple, to be released June 1, 2016.
  • "Stories and graphics combine to make Through Early Yellowstone a beautiful, informative, and highly entertaining read." —Diane Prokop, Foreword Reviews, Summer 2016
  • “A fresh and exciting Yellowstone anthology featuring remarkable, untold stories, some astounding, newly discovered nineteenth-century art, insightful perspectives and a welcome, original voice in the park’s expansive literary saga.” —Peter Hassrick, Director Emeritus, Buffalo Bill Center of the West, April 6, 2016
You can preorder the book via the link on our website, or write to webmaster@yellowstonetreasures.com to get on the list for the first copies we send out. After June 1, Through Early Yellowstone will be available wherever fine books are sold.

Granite Peak Publications news

Granite Peak Publications will participate in several festivals this year. Here are the ones coming up soon. Through Early Yellowstone will be displayed in the Independent Book Publishers Association booth at Book Expo America May 11-13 and then for the 10,000 fans at the public BookCon on May 14, both in Chicago. We will also be at the second annual Bay Area Book Festival on June 4 and 5. Stop by our outdoor booth if you can get to Berkeley, California, to say hi and see both the new anthology and Yellowstone Treasures!
