Everybody out of your seats and get ready to move during CMEE’s Friday Night Drop-Off Dance Parties this summer! While parents are enjoying a night to themselves, kids ages 3 and up are invited to join Museum staff for dinner and dancing under the disco ball.

Katy's Kids at the Children's Museum
Speaking with Brigid Collins, co-founder of Katy's Courage

Following the passing of their daughter, Katy, in 2011 from a rare form of pediatric liver cancer called hepatoblastoma, Brigid Collins and Jim Stewart started Katy's Courage. In addition to funding local school scholarships and raising money for pediatric cancer research, the non-profit organization runs a children's bereavement program called Katy's Kids at the Children's Museum on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday every month. We recently spoke with Brigid about the program's beginnings, the importance of helping children cope with grief, and their future plans.

A resident of the East End for most of his life, Grant Haffner's work (a collection of which is currently on display at the Museum until Labor Day) is inspired by the country roads, local landmarks, and breathtaking landscapes that make the area so unique. Using a bold—and sometimes neon—color palette, his images vibrantly re-imagine the rural roadways we travel every day. In between raising two toddlers with his wife and daily trips to his studio, he was kind enough to answer a few of our questions.

On Saturday, August 20th, please join us for the 2nd Annual Chessfest! Brought to you by the Children’s Museum of the East End and Chess NYC, the family-friendly event promises a morning filled with crafts, activities, and games for players of all interests and skill levels. The morning will also feature a simultaneous match with a group of kids challenging an internationally ranked grandmaster!

Following a career writing plays, running day cares, and, most recently, managing Head Start centers throughout Long Island, Daphne Gill steps into the role as the Museum's Director of Operations. She took a break during her first week on the job to chat with us about childhood education, her experience so far, and the impact she hopes to make on the Museum.

We are thrilled to partner with our friends at Amber Waves Farm to celebrate the end of summer (and the start of the school year) with our first ever Pizza Night at the Farm! In addition to picking toppings for a personal pizza that will be cooked in their custom, wood-fired copper oven, families attending this special event will enjoy a tour of the farm, crafts, games, and cutting fresh flowers.

All Super Soccer Stars classes are based on age-specific curricula created by a combination of early childhood, soccer, and behavioral specialists to guarantee that each child is learning and having a blast from the moment the whistle blows.
