Large printed Illustrations from the book Foraging & Feasting: A Field Guide and Wild Food Cookbook will be part of this vibrant exhibition opening this month at the Ashokan Center in Olivebridge, NY. These large prints are mounted in the dining room so that folks can study the plants, many of which are edible as they dine.
Illustrating Hidden Treasures:
Botanical Art by Wendy Hollender
Exhibition Opening
at The Ashokan Center
477 Beaverkill RD Olivebridge, NY 12461 Saturday, August 13, 4 p.m. Free and open to the public!
For the past seventeen years, artist Wendy Hollender's work has focused exclusively on plants. Her interest in understanding how plants function informs the botanically correct illustrations she creates. This exhibition presents drawings featured in magazines, advertisements and a book about wild edible plants titled Foraging and Feasting: A Field Guide and Wild Food Cookbook, co-published by Hollender and author Dina Falconi. Wendy Hollender will be on hand to answer questions.
We will have books, note cards and prints for sale.
People who attend the opening are invited to stay for the Cajun & Square Dance Party & BBQ at 6 p.m. The menu will feature a number of root-based recipes inspired by the exhibition. Click here for BBQ tickets. Illustrating Hidden Treasures was first presented at the United States Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C. Botanist, Susan Pell, Science and Public Programs Manager at USBG, curated the exhibition. It will remain on view at The Ashokan Center through Fall 2016. The exhibition is a group of 16 large giclee prints. Each print is enlarged proportionally to 41 inches in size making this work dramatic and informative. The prints use archival inks and are printed on acid free canvas.
