Are You Prepped for PrEP?

Each year, an average of 16 Marin County residents contract HIV. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) can prevent HIV transmission. You are invited to a presentation on PrEP hosted by Marin HHS and the Bay Area & North Coast AIDS Education and Training Center -- Wednesday, August 17th 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Marin HHS Health & Wellness Campus, 3240 Kerner Blvd.  Breakfast and CEUs included.  Register here.

  Walk for Life

I recently had a chance to experience healthy aging in action by joining the Larkspur Walkers on a morning walk.  The group started 24 years ago and still meets three times a week at Piper Park in Larkspur.  Options include a slower-paced flat walk and a hill walk.  Recommending this and similar programs is an ideal way to promote activity and strengthen social connections for our patients as they age.  Here is a link to the Walkers' invitation

Foster Community, Foster Hope, Foster Our Future

Our community needs exceptional people who can provide loving, temporary homes to children in foster care.  Your medical practice staff or clients may be ready and eager to foster children. Individuals with medical experience, those who can welcome siblings together, and those who are Spanish-speaking are especially needed. Attend an orientation with a social worker and an experienced foster parent to learn more. Visit www.FosterOurFutureMarin.org or call 415-473-2200 for more information.

Immunize for Life

First 5 Marin, Marin HHS and the Marin Communications Forum is hosting a free community workshop on the value and impact of immunizations on personal health and community immunity-- Monday, August 8th at 9 am at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in San Rafael. It will include updates on  SB 277 and SB 792. RSVP to Michelle@First5Marin.org

Message from the Public Health Officer

Matthew Willis Marin County PHO Headshot

The Marin County Board of Supervisors is recognizing National Health Center Week August 7-13. This a chance to celebrate our community health centers-- Ritter Center, Coastal Health Alliance, Planned Parenthood, Marin Community Clinics, and  Marin City Health and Wellness Center-- for providing high quality, cost effective primary care regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Clinicians throughout the health system know the critical role of community health centers in advancing public health, safety and economic security. They save lives, prevent unnecessary and costly hospital visits, and reduce healthcare spending.. We are proud and grateful of their mission-directed and tireless efforts to provide healthcare for All in Marin.

Warm Regards,
Matt Willis
