PLYMOUTH VCSE
We want to make sure that the work POP has begun continues when the contract ends in March 2017 which is why we have created the new CIO which is owned by the whole sector.

It will build on POP's work and do even more to support, build capacity, unify our voice, work strategically with statutory partners, and make our own Plymouth PVCSE robust and self-funded for the future! As we move forward with Plymouth VCSE it is essential that we grow our membership. Please do take the time to complete a membership form and join us. We must demonstrate that we can all work together and collaborate in the context of a rapidly changing society to make sure that the people of Plymouth get the best services they possibly can. If you have interacted with POP over the last 3 years then this will be the step forward to ensure you remain part of the vibrant community we have all built together.
As well as becoming a general member, everyone is invited to join the working party which is making sure that Plymouth VCSE is ready for this really exciting step forward for the sector in the city. The meetings are held fornightly on a Tuesday evening 4-6pm, the next being 16th August at Devonport Guildhall.
If you would like to see more information about what the PVCSE is about then please see the following documents, Plymouth VCSE reasons for being and Business plan and feel free to contact us here at pop@zebra.coop

SECTOR SUCCESS STORY
Open Doors International Language School
ODILS
After obtaining some funding from Vital sparks ODILS set up a four week Art group which was facilitated by a past ODILS student, in the sessions learners painted stories which had been written by other students. It was really well attended, welcoming nationalities including Malaysian, Sudanese, Eritrean, Hungarian, Romanian, Belgian, Bangladeshi and Syrian including the teacher who comes from Turkey. The project has culminated in producing a book and we are planning an exhibition. The project was a real success and engaged some learners with very minimal English who had never painted before so it was very special.

Recently we ther events that have taken place was a successful Trinity Cert TESOL course, resulting in eight fully qualified teachers, two of whom are old students and will now be giving back to the community teaching their own classes.

And they've not stopped there, They have recently had great successes with all their learners completing and passing their City & Guilds or NOCN ESOL and Functional skills qualifications!

Community Corner
Joyce’s Quilt project will travel as a ‘roadshow’ working in different spaces with the women coming along on the roadshow so that different communities integrate and work alongside others in different locations.  Women can do a piece to remember a woman that means something to them.
At the end of the sessions making the pieces, we will have extra sessions to put the quilt together.  This will give the women a chance to come together and talk about their piece to the other women to the other women in the group.

See here for more info and how to be involved.
CROWDFUNDERS IN YOUR CITY
Community Corner
Six out of ten people surveyed* say they cannot remember ever coming together to celebrate with their community. The Big Lottery Fund wants to help change this with our Celebrate! programme.

The Big Lottery are offering grants of between £300 and £10,000 for groups to hold one off events or activities which celebrate their local community. You could celebrate something from your community's history or a local hero. Or maybe it's a chance to bring people together to get to know their neighbours better.
