World-class Italian Chef, Massimo Bottura alongside David Hertz, will Re - Purpose Rio's Olympic sized Food Waste dilemma.
The Rio Olympics 2016 starting August 6th will feature the “Reffeto-Rio†program headed by world-class Italian Chef, Massimo Bottura alongside David Hertz, founder of the non-profit “Gastro Motiva.†The program was unveiled on July 8th and seeks to redistribute food wasted at the events in Rio to the homeless or the poor in the city’s favelas. Bottura launched a similar program last year at an expo in Milan, where 15 tons of food from the event was reworked into meals instead of being thrown away.

The Media rubbished the introduction of Pay x Weight and the Government then buried it for fear of revolt. Joe Duffy's Live Line programme hosted by Philip Boucher Hayes had 2 full programmes here and here. The newspapers had a field day too. Taoiseach himself was forced to make a Dáil statement on the issue, but it was too late the public's perception encouraged by the media, political parties and independents had been turned against pay x Weight ever becoming a reality.
The Black bin and the Green bin dominated the Pay x Weight argument, where in fact the intention was to increase diversion of Food Waste from Landfill and Export, by encouraging households to use a Brown bin.
Fact! Had Phil Hogan stuck to his initial promise to ensure refuse collectors would incentivise every household to recycle then none of this would have come about.
Fact! Councils are and will continue to target Illegal Dumpers of refuse.
Regardless of how it's charged for the Brown bin does save a household money, as it does our's and we're here to help every household manage theirs.

On March 23rd 2016 Brown Bin Rescue had it's E2E compostable bags range trialled at Thornton's commercial Food Waste Composting centre at Kilmainhamwood County Meath.
E2E compostable bags are a commercial grade bag, not available in shops, which uniquely supports 15kg + in weight which no other competitors plant starch type bag can do.
Facility manager Séan Campbell pictured here witnessed the bags practically disappear in 16 days, competitors bags take much longer.
E2E bags were placed inside a red nylon net bag for ease of recovery and identification.

A common sight in Dublin's Fair City.
More and more Eateries and Coffee shops opening in Dublin city is increasing levels of mixed waste. Black bags are the only easy solution, but aside from the Sea Gulls no one wants Food Waste strewn all over the street. Our next edition should bring exciting news from us on our innovative initiative to tackle this serious problem.

Councils clamping down hard on the use of Black plastic refuse sacks for homes and businesses. Having made blanket bans in Dublin the council rowed back on some streets temporarily, until alternatives can be sought. Grafton Street, Baggot Street and Dame Street are spared for now.
