  August 2016
Welcome to our August email newsletter...
Hello <<First Name>>,

Although we try and take a break from formal meetings in August to give everyone a chance to take a well earned break and also give our staff some 'catch up time' in the office, this year more seems to be happening in August than normal!

You can read the latest position on the Baildon reservoir site below, and I urge everyone who has an opinion on the proposals to please go online to register that opinion formally in relation to the Planning application for the site, which cannot be determined by Bradford Council until after 12th August. More details below.

In addition I am pleased to report that we are having our first meeting with Bradford Library service in August, which is really a fact finding mission to try to clarify how Bradford Council sees the library operating in 2017. I hope to give an update in the next newsletter.

The Town Council is very aware that our outward communication needs to be improved, and we are working through some changes which we hope will make things better from September. In the meantime, please bear in mind that we have less than 2 full time members of staff, and due to their holidays, the office will be closed from 15th until 30th August. Our 12 councillors, all of whom are unpaid volunteers, may also be taking holidays at this time of year. Please bear with us, and if you have any trouble in contacting any of us, please email me at chair@baildontowncouncil.gov.uk.

In the meantime, I hope you manage to enjoy some of the many events coming up in Baildon, and have a fantastic summer!

Very best wishes,

Gill Dixon
Chair of Baildon Town Council

Latest information on Baildon Reservoir site

Baildon Town Council wishes to share widely the latest information in relation to Baildon Reservoir.

Over recent months, a number of councillors have been working closely with District Councillors for the Baildon ward to address the main concerns about activities on this site. Most recently, residents have been extremely worried about the waste material visibly being imported onto the site and the unknown effect on the watercourses arising from the site.

Gill Dixon, Chair of Baildon Town Council, says: "I am pleased to see today that a legal Planning Enforcement Notice has been served by Bradford Council. This has followed many months of discussion between Baildon Town Council and Bradford Council via the ward councillors for Baildon. It has been frustrating at times that it has taken so long to get to this point, but this legal notice we hope will put a stop to any unauthorised activity on the site." READ THIS ARTICLE IN FULL

Richard White
New manager at Countryside Centre

Bracken Hall has recently welcomed Richard White, its new manager, to the Centre. A Baildonian, Richard has returned to Yorkshire after many years away, firstly studying in Wales, and then working on an environmental course at a university in South Africa.

"I have known the Centre since its first incarnation," said Richard, "when it was run as a private business, and then through its Bradford Council days. I'm getting to know it all over again, and the many people involved in saving it, and operating it today."

The reopening of Bracken Hall has been no small achievement, often against the odds, and shows the fondness felt towards the Centre and its importance to the area. "The Friends of Bracken Hall group was set up when it was clear the Centre was going to close," said Richard. "Without this committed group of volunteers and the tireless efforts of local councillors, it would have been unlikely that the Centre would have been able to reopen earlier this year. I only work part-time, so Bracken Hall relies heavily on volunteers - individuals with a range of interests and backgrounds - coming along and doing their bit. Very enthusiastic landlords have also been crucial."

Bracken Hall is open Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and for Wild Wednesday events throughout the summer school holidays (run by the friends group). It is also hosting school parties again, and offering many other events, often in collaboration with freelance companies. It is always looking for additional volunteers - perhaps for just an afternoon each month - contact the friends group, email Richard, or pay the Centre a visit if you think you could help.

Find out more about Hallcliffe Community Garden
Community garden
Hall Cliffe Community Garden was created in 2004 and is open free of charge daily from dawn until dusk to all members of the public. It is enjoyed by a large cross section of people for varied activities including: Brownies, mums and toddlers, walking group picnics and those just wishing to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of an outdoor space with abundant planting and wildlife.

The Garden is run entirely by unpaid volunteers who work in the garden every Thursday morning from 9am until lunchtime, in all weathers. Help is invited to just potter or to carry out general maintenance. Plants are propagated by the team and sold at reasonable prices to help with the annual running costs.
Being a volunteer is a good way to get some exercise and fresh air as well as make new friends and learn more about gardening. We are constantly being told of the health benefits of gardening so why not come along? If you need further information contact Julia on 07540 771649.

We are inviting visitors into the garden for the Scarecrow Festival on 10 September and hope to have many stalls as well as lots of scarecrows. More details will be announced shortly and everyone is very welcome.
