'Funnier than the Black Death'

Rehearsals are now underway for our November musical, Monty Python's Spamalot.

Fans of the Pythons will notice more than a loving nod to the classic comedy film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and features witch burnings (cancelled due to health and safety), fish-slapping, cows, killer rabbits and French people with outrageous accents!

Get ready for fantastic tunes including: He Is Not Dead Yet, Knights of the Round Table, Find Your Grail and, of course, the nation’s favourite comedy song (Reader’s Digest Poll 2010), Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.

The show runs from 7.30pm each night November 14-19 and there will also be a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost £12, with £10 concessions from Monday to Wednesday only. All matinee tickets are £10.

Patrons will get their forms for priority booking soon. Other tickets are on sale at the Brewhouse box office and we'll publicise on our social media channels when online ticket sales, via our website, are available.

Much Ado lovers tie the knot in real life

Tim Robinson and Olivia Farthing are hoping that their real-life nuptials on August 6 turn out to be less dramatic that the wedding scene they played out in their roles as Claudio and Hero in our June production of Much Ado About Nothing.

You may have seen this story in the Burton Mail in the run-up to our June play. Olivia and Tim met through their families as children, but became friends when they both joined the Little Theatre Company. Much Ado was the first time they had played opposite each other, Although Claudio jilted Hero at the altar, the couple were reunited in Shakespeare's play's happy ending.

We wish the couple all the luck and love in the world.

Quiz night tickets still available

Join us for our fun fundraiser

At the time of writing we still have space for 10 more teams of four to join our quiz night on Saturday September 3, starting at 7.30pm in the Brewhouse's ground floor cafe bar.

The cost will be £10 per person (£40 for the team) which will include a chip butty supper served during a half time break in the quiz. The bar will be open throughout the night for liquid refreshment.

To book you need to email Elaine Pritchard now or ring her on 07889 821 348 and she will provide information on how to pay your team fee and secure your place. 

The money raised on quiz night - when there will also be a tombola running - will help with the costs of future productions.

Auditions for new youth members

September 10 is the day to get a place in the company for Les Mis

Saturday September 10 is the day when we'll be auditioning for new members to join LTC youth ahead of our Easter 2017 production of  Les Miserables (School Edition).

We are keen to hear from any young performers who can sing and act and are available throughout the 2017 Easter holidays and able to commit to rehearsals every Monday from September to December and then Mondays AND Thursdays from January until Easter.

If you know anyone who would like to audition for the youth company, please ask them to email info@little-theatre.co.uk NOW with some information about their previous experience. It will be helpful if they can also detail any times between 9am and 5pm on September 10 when they would NOT be available to audition.

Sophie's night to remember

On stage with her heroes of musical theatre

Sophie Towns, a former member of both our youth theatre and adult company, will share the stage with some of her favourite musical theatre stars in London's Covent Garden this month.

Tickets for the two nights of the musical Godspell have sold out - but Sophie, 22, was able to grab a few for her family and friends to share her special night.

Sophie, who starred in our production of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice (June 2012), as well as our 2012 youth production of Les Miserables, said: "I owe a lot to the Little Theatre Company because it was there that I felt my happiest and fell in love with musical theatre".

Fundraiser for US trip

Join Wil and friends at the National Brewery Centre in October

Here's a 'save the date' item about a gig coming up in October starring our own Wil Pearson. It is part of the fundraising Hot House Jazz are doing for their trip to perform in New York and New Orleans over the New Year. We'll tell you more about their planned visit in future newsletters. These talented young musicians are embarking on their visit from December 28 to January 8.

Announcing our full line-up

2017 will be a year of three 'firsts' and an old favourite.

As already mentioned, our Easter youth production will be the Schools Edition of Les Miserables, which we have previously performed in 2009 and 2012. The reason for revisiting it, says Chairman Peter Clemson, is our belief that all our youth members should have the chance to take part in this iconic show.

Our March, June and November shows are all being performed for the very first time in Burton.

In March we will perform the comedy play One Man, Two Guvnors, which played at the National Theatre, the West End and Broadway and toured the UK with a cast led by James Corden. Set in Brighton in the 1960s it tells the comic misadventures of Francis Henshall who is working for two men and trying hard to stop them meeting and finding out about each other. 

In June we will perform the smash-hit, satirical musical Avenue Q, sometimes described as 'Sesame Street for adults'. It features actors playing alongside Sesame Street-style puppets but the adult themes they explore in a series of catchy, comedy tunes address the modern-day issues and anxieties associated with entering adulthood.

In November we will be performing Betty Blue Eyes, a stage musical comedy based on the 1984 film A Private Function. It features music and lyrics by Stiles and Drewe and is based on the original screenplay by Alan Bennett. The show is set in 1947, where having won the war, Britain seems to be losing the peace. Belts are being tightened by families, while local officials feather their own nests by taking more than their own fair share as acute rationing, unemployment and the coldest winter for decades beset the country. The bright spot on the horizon is the impending marriage of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
