Fabulous Focus &
Crazy Control!

When:  Saturday, Sept. 10th, 10am
(6 weeks-- No Class 10/1.  1hr each class)

Where:  4358 Gibsonia Rd, Gibsonia, PA  North Pittsburgh Animal Behavior's training and education facility

You spoke and we listened!  After we tallied the votes from the last news letter, the two classes that were the most popular had the exact same number of votes.  Since these two topics fit quite well together, we decided to combine them into a single class all about focus and impulse control!

This class will feature exercises and games to improve your dog's focus on you in a variety of situations.  They will learn that focus on you leads to the opportunity to play fun games and work.  You will not beg for their attention, they will learn to freely offer it!

This type of focus work is largely about impulse control--choose your owner over the distractions and so we will build off that with additional games and exercises regarding impulse control.  While we will eventually go over having a very reliable "Leave it" behavior on cue, we will spent a boatload more time teaching your dog to make choices, not listen to orders.  If they learn to make good choices in the first place, the need for barking orders greatly diminishes!  We will work on impulse control with food, toys, and other distractions!

Brain Busters!

When:  Saturday Sept. 10th, 11:15am
(6 weeks--no class 10/1.  45 minute classes)

Where:  4358 Gibsonia Rd, Gibsonia, PA  North Pittsburgh Animal Behavior's training and education facility

FUN, GAMES, and BRAINS! That's what this class is all about!  Each week we will play games or with toys that are designed to flex your pup's brain power.  Each week we will focus on one type of game, toy, or activity.

Kibble dispensing toys, puzzle toys, homemade enrichment activities, tricks, and problem solving games are all things we will explore in this 6 week class.  This class is 45 minutes each week rather than an hour--when I've run this class previously the dogs seem to really get tired quickly from all the thinking!

Congratulations!

Back to School Shopping!

Your human kids are not the only ones who have a list of helpful or must-have items for the new school year!  Here are some of Tena's favorite training tools and gear!

Rapid Rewards Treat Pouch--this training pouch is like the swiss-army knife of training pouches!  All sorts of extra features that make it a really all-purpose pouch!  Amazon.com carries this.

Squeeze Tube (Food Tube)--this awesome treat dispensing option is fantastic for many dogs and handlers!  Fill it with peanut butter, cream cheese (mixed with some meaty baby food to loosen it up a bit), or another similar textured treat. Amazon or REI

Happy Howie's Meat Roll--these treats are some of my favorites!  They come as a single log that you can dice up to have treats the correct size for your dog!  The texture of the beef, turkey, and chicken is more similar to a hard salami so it does not crumble, no matter how small the treat.  Amazon.com

Clik-Stick or Target Stick--Clik-stick has a clicker built into a typical target stick.  Target sticks are fun tools for teaching a variety of tricks or other skills you might use a lure for--teach your dog to follow the target stick and your arm suddenly gets 2ft longer!
