The Joint Base Charleston hosted their annual Education Fair at the Charleston Air Force Base on July 28. Jovena Mouzone, admissions coordinator for SWU's Charleston Education Center, represented the university. Thirty other colleges from all over the country also attended. The educational fair was open to all active duty Air Force and Navy students, civilians, dependents and spouses.
“This event was a great way for SWU in Charleston to make contacts with our local service men and women at Joint Base Charleston,” Mouzone said.
SWU alumnus Davey Blackburn (’08), right, was recognized by the Cubs baseball team July 30. Dave is holding his son Weston and is pictured with, from left, Jono Blackburn (’10), Tessa Blackburn (’13), Dave Blackburn and Brenda Blackburn. Also a baseball alum, Davey is the founder of Resonate Church in Indianapolis. Davey’s wife Amanda and their unborn child were murdered during a 2015 home invasion.
The Brown Bag Lunch Series session this Wednesday at Baptist Easley will feature “Conscious Professionalism,” a presentation by Tod Tappert, GHS vice president and chief learning officer. Charles Tegen ('74) was awarded the 2016 Professional Development Award for his notable and extensive contributions to the National Association of College and University Business Officers Tegen is the associate vice president for finance at Clemson University, and the husband of Deanna Tegen ('75), the accounting director in SWU's business office. NACUBO, founded in 1962, is a nonprofit professional organization representing chief administrative and financial officers at more than 2,100 colleges and universities across the country. Read more>>

Danielle Broome ('12) recently received a promotion at Milliken & Company, a world-renowned chemical, floor covering, and performance materials company headquartered in Spartanburg. She is being promoted from Marketing Communications Specialist for Milliken Chemical to Marketing Communications Manager for Milliken Specialty Fabrics. She received her Bachelors in Communication from SWU’s Central campus in 2012.

Jessica Rivera
, NP from Baptist Easley will resume hours in the Health Center beginning Monday, August 8.  She is available by appointment from 8:15 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Monday and Thursdays to see both employees and employee family members.  To schedule an appointment please contact Elyse Pippin epippin@swu.edu or Lori Herron lherron@swu.edu.  Or call Elyse at extension 5131.  All billing is handled through Baptist Easley Hospital.  If you have questions please contact Lori Herron. 

Jessica's Bio:
Jessica Rivera is a Nurse Practitioner in our office.  She earned her undergraduate degree from Clemson University and her Masters and Doctorate in nursing from MUSC with a family nurse practitioner emphasis.
She practices under the senior supervision of Dr. Lori Carnsew.  A Nurse Practitioner must complete a master's or doctoral degree program, and have advanced clinical training beyond their initial professional registered nurse preparation. Didactic and clinical courses prepare nurses with specialized knowledge and clinical competency to practice in primary care, acute care and long-term health care settings.
Jessica’s emphasis is on the health and well-being of the whole person. She works with patients on health promotion and disease prevention through education and counselling.
Jessica is married with one child and enjoys family and Clemson sports.

Men's Basketball Signs Six for 2016-17

SWU Head Men's Basketball Coach Charles Wimphrie has announced the signing of six new players for the 2016-17 season.

Human Resources News

Kerrin Moseley was hired on August 3 as general manager of Blue Hill Coffee and Tea. Kerrin received her associate’s degree in nursing and is a certified RN. In addition to working in the health industry, she most recently worked as an associate at the Lowe’s in Clemson.

If you’re looking for our religion and humanities faculty, they have moved this summer. With the completion of Nicholson-Mitchell Center for Christian Ministry, the religion division has moved into this location, and some of the humanities division have moved into the former religion offices on the 2nd floor of Brower classroom building. You can view these changes on SWU’s web direction at: Division of Religion and Division of Humanities.

Effective July 1, Brian Bartlett’s title as systems administrator now includes assistant director of information technology. This designation provides for leadership and decision-making when the director of IT, Mike Preusz, is unavailable.

As summer begins to wind down and we are all preparing for the beginning of a new academic year, you may already be planning your next vacation. Our next holiday will be Thanksgiving break, November 24-25, and our payroll manager reminds us that payday, November 28, will fall on the Monday after this break.
