Supporting the
Lamb Center

Last July, through your generous contributions, VBC supplied The Lamb Center with a stockpile of items they use on a daily basis as they minister to a large community of homeless persons right here in our local area. We would like to help them again this year! Starting Sunday, July 24, you can pick up a bag and instructions from the table outside the office. Please return your bag with some of the supplies indicated by Thursday, August 11, and leave it in the foyer. This year VBC's Vacation Bible School will also participate in this mission opportunity. They will hear about The Lamb Center during their week.

The Lamb Center, located in their new facility near Fairfax Circle, strives to end homelessness by transforming lives through Christian spirituality, counseling and service. Counseling is their core program and encompasses spiritual, psychological, life and employment dimensions. Complementing their counseling programs, many services are provided without cost to guests. Some of these services include hot meals, showers and laundry, mail, telephone and computer services, haircuts, resume help, medical referrals and prescription aid, and Social Security pension/disability assistance.

If you visit the Center you will find a "little place that is big on love" and a sense of community that is enviable. We can help brighten days and lives. Please fill a bag for The Lamb Center!

Diaconate Sponsored Church Picnic

You and your family are invited to a church-wide picnic on Sunday, July 31, immediately following worship. Come to worship dressed casually and comfortably that day so you can go straight to the festivities. The picnic will be held at the home of Lee and Nancy Curtis, about a six-minute drive from the church. All you need to bring is yourself, and possibly a lawn chair if you have one handy.

Picnic food of hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, watermelon and ice cream will be served. Bring your suits if you want to swim, or there is volleyball, basketball, and corn hole for those who like a little competition. There is always plenty of good conversation when we get together! All ages are encouraged to attend. Please contact Nancy Curtis for more information on this event.

America for Christ Offering Thanks

A huge thank you to all who participated in the American Baptist Churches Home Mission Societiesí America for Christ offering in June. Your most generous contributions totaling $2582.65 will help build bridges, transform lives and meet needs in neighborhoods and communities across the United States and Puerto Rico with the love and hope of Jesus Christ.

Thank you once again for showing that we take our covenant seriously "To proclaim the gospel through words and deeds to those whose lives our touch, and provide the resources necessary for others to do so throughout the world."

VBC Book Club

Join us for the next gathering of the VBC Book Club on Saturday, August 6th, from 3-4:30 pm at the home of Sheila Hodges to discuss The Sympathizer, by Viet Thanh Nguyen, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2016. "A profound, startling, and beautifully crafted debut novel," The Sympathizer is "a layered immigrant tale told in the wry, confessional voice of a "man of two minds"--and two countries, Vietnam and the United States." (The Pulitzer Prizes) Contact Nancy Curtis and join the conversation!

Women's Fellowship

There will be no Women's Fellowship meeting in August. Due to the Labor Day holiday, the September meeting of the Women's Fellowship will be on September 12. If you have any questions, or wish to be involved with this small group ministry, please contact Nancy Curtis.

VBS Volunteers Needed

Have U Seen? is a Scripture-driven and interactive approach to Vacation Bible School that introduces children to the many ways God speaks to all of us. Instead of being driven by a loose theme, Have U Seen? helps children engage Scripture in a way that is holistic and life-changing. Each activity and experience can be used to help children grow in a loving relationship with God as they learn about experiences in Jesus’ life.

Adult Volunteers Needed

In order to have a successful VBS, we need volunteers! There are jobs to be done even if you can’t volunteer during the day. If you are able to help out with this year’s VBS, please contact Pastor Ginny as soon as possible.
