Wildflowers of Summer

Summer is finally with us, and all around - including increasingly in our city and town spaces - wildflowers are in full bloom. Check out our monthly 'Nature Now' diary to find out what's 'out there'!
In this month's abridged edition, our focus is on the wildflowers that we are bringing in to the open spaces . See this month's Bio Blog (below right) by Dan Fagan, ranger at Lewes District Council, to learn about all of the determined work to brighten up peoples' lives in the urban areas of our Biosphere as well as encouraging wildlife in to our local habitat.

Urban Wildflower Areas
New and beautiful wildflower habitat creation sites can be found across in our Biosphere area, including:
~ Brighton & Hove - East Brighton park, so large it is visible from planes!
~ Lewes - Railway Land, go figure out the new 'mathematical' wildflower planter here!
~ Adur & Worthing - almost 5000 square metres of 17 new areas have been planted, such as Lancing Manor park

Wildflowers for the People!
All across the city and towns of our Biosphere, colourful wild flowers are now appearing in parks and other green spaces that aim to “bring the countryside to town”!
All three councils here are leading projects to create beautiful diverse wildlife havens that not only look great, but also help to fuel our precious insect pollinators.
Brighton & Hove City Council City Parks has led the ‘Downs to Towns’ project to create many new chalk "Bee and Butterfly Banks".
Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council Parks department is planting new wildflower areas.
Lewes District and Town Councils and others are leading the exciting new campaign ‘Wildflower Lewes’ to get the town buzzing!
