(Tucson, Arizona) – 88-CRIME is seeking highly motivated volunteers for our Safe-Schools Program. 88-CRIME (operated by the Pima County Attorney’s Office) sponsors presentations at local schools for K-12 students, teaching them what to do when they learn of a crime or threat, including how to call 911 or use the anonymous tip line at 88-CRIME.

The Safe-Schools Program includes the presentation of a film produced by local film makers, either Scruff’s Birthday Party or Trouble At Hand, followed by a group discussion led by the 88-CRIME Volunteer.

The County Attorney’s 88-CRIME anonymous tip line has been in operation since 1980 and coordinates closely with local law enforcement agencies, community residents, and the media to help make Pima County a safer place to live.  To date, tips called in to 88-CRIME have resulted in 5,788 felony arrests and an estimated 6,257 cases cleared by law enforcement; narcotics worth more than $90,312,626 removed from the streets; and property valued at more than $19,850,350 recovered.  Meanwhile, 88-CRIME, Inc. has paid out $1,070,650 in rewards to anonymous callers who provided useful tips.

To learn more about becoming a volunteer for 88-CRIME’s Safe-Schools Program, please attend an information session on August 18, 2016, at 3:00 p.m., at the Tucson Police Department located at 1310 West Miracle Mile.

After completing a background check, successful applicants will receive training from 88-CRIME at the Pima County Attorney’s Office before being certified to become presenters or presentation assistants.
