Vicsport to deliver resources on
inclusive environments
On Friday 1 July VicHealth CEO, Jerril Rechter announced that Vicsport will be delivering a two-year project to provide resources for sporting organisations and grassroots clubs to create inclusive environments for women and girls, Aboriginal Victorians, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and people with a disability.
The project ensures the learnings from two of VicHealth’s prior major sport programs between 2010 and 2015 – the State Sporting Association Participation Program and the Healthy Sporting Environments program – are built upon and made available to all sporting organisations in Victoria.
From fleeing Pakistan to suiting up for Australia - The story of Fawad Ahmed
Australian cricketer Fawad Ahmed as had an amazing journey over the past six years. Having arrived in Victoria in 2010 after fleeing Pakistan, Ahmed is now a permanent fixture in the Victorian Cricket team, being part of the Australian side on a number of occasions. Vicsport's diverse range of members has created the need for a system that can handle unique needs and will allow us to capture and analyse customer data and trends, and tailor our communications accordingly.
Vicsport, in conjunction with the Australian Intercultural Society, hosted the inaugural Victorian Sport Community Iftar Dinner on Monday 4 July, bringing together Muslim community leaders, and a broad spectrum of disciplines in one room to experience this tradition and demonstrate the power sport has to unite, educate and support the entire community.

Scrum is an award-winning Australian film that shows how inclusive sporting communities change the lives of LGBTI players. This month, SCRUM was screened as part of the “Pride in Victorian Sport” event, featuring with Gender and Sexuality Commissioner, Rowena Allen. This fantastic event brought together state and national sporting organisations across codes, to discuss how we can celebrate gender and sexual diversity in our sporting communities.

Ethical principles, culture, behaviours, risk management, pre-planning, and frameworks. These were the topics up for discussion at the most recent Vicsport Professionals Network (VPN) event .
Sport England CEO, Jenny Price was in Melbourne earlier this month to discuss her role in overseeing the renowned ‘This Girl Can’ campaign in the United Kingdom, which tackles traditional barriers that prevent women and girls from being active. Other topics from the event included:
behaviour change, focusing on supporting inactive people to participate in sport and volunteering
moving sporting organisations towards digital innovation
supporting sport to diversify its funding sources.

The 2016 Asia-Pacific Sports Analytics Conference was a great success!
