NOTES FROM NANCY BERKLEY

FIRST:  The big news is that the United States won the LPGA UL International Crown and earned the title: “Best women’s golf nation in the world.”  US golfers:  Cristie Kerr, Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson and Gerina Piller came from behind and outplayed the 4-person teams from England, Korea, Japan, Taipei, China and Australia.  The format was match play which is also the format for the upcoming men’s Ryder Cup  -- September 27 to October 2 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
I watched the International Crown tournament on TV, and I loved that the TV coverage opened with a song.   Not sure I’ve heard a song introduction  before, but the lyrics “I’m going to stand by you” from Rachel Patten’s hit “Stand by You” was a perfect choice. That’s what teamwork is all about.
My other takeaway from the International Crown came from NBC announcer, Judy Rankin.  She suggested that this International Crown victory by the U.S. might be a sign that we can’t count the U.S. women golfers out especially with another LPGA Major coming up – this week's RICOH British Open; and, the upcoming Olympics  in Rio August 17-20.
MY SECOND NOTE – more personal.  I played a great round of golf this morning out here in Beaver Creek, Colorado. My swing just came together!    I want to thank Karen Palacios Jensen for her article - “Swing Under Your Head to Stop Going Over the Top”.  Unfortunately, I am not positive I will still have that swing tomorrow.
Golf coaches and lessons are very personal, which is why even the best professional golfers change coaches from time to time. My advice is to glance through the articles (many with videos) in the Women's Golf Tips section.   As golfers, we not only have different athletic abilities but we have different brains with unique mind/body coordination.  There are many excellent golf instructors out there.  Find one that speaks to your brain and body.  Play more golf and enjoy it!
Were you wondering if Heather LeMaster broke the record for the longest drive by a woman at the annual American Century Celebrity Tournament?
Can the Women outdrive the Guys at Lake Tahoe?
Heather LeMaster makes her debut at the American Century Championship Long Drive Competition.
The answer is “yes” with a drive of  336 yards!  More women than ever played in this year’s American Century tournament.  In addition to Heather, the women’s four-some included swimsuit model and former LPGA Symetra Tour player Blair O’Neal, Golf Channel personality, Lisa Cornwell and Kathryn Tappen, a sportscaster for NBC Sports.

ONE LAST NOTE:  In a world of conflict and tension, let’s hope that the Olympics in Rio – coming soon – remind us that we can peacefully compete in the world of sports.   Let’s rejoice in the skills we share regardless of who takes home the medals.

BE HAPPY, BE HEALTHY. LIVE LONGER, PLAY GOLF
