Come spend a summer afternoon with fellow RPCVs and vote for next year's Board of Directors. We're returning to the site of our 2013 Summer BBQ - Gorilla Grove at the National Zoo!
Gorilla Grove is near the Great Apes section of the Zoo and the lot C parking lot. Your ticket gets you 2 hours of food and beer/wine. Kids under 3 eat free! Menu to follow shortly.

But in the summer, they experience a drought of sandwich donations when they need them most. Whether you can make 30 sandwiches or all 300 - they need your help! --My Brother's Keeper-- Check out My Brother's Keeper one-day volunteer recruitment fair hosted by EZ Street (WKYS-93.9 FM Radio Personality), Serve DC - The Mayor's Office on Volunteerism and the Taproot Foundation on August 17, 2016 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The event will have 40 nonprofit and government agencies that provide direct interaction volunteer opportunities with young boys and men of color to inform volunteers of their organization's needs, register volunteers, and form partnerships to invest in the lives of DC's young people. National Black Peace Corps Volunteer Gathering Seeks Volunteers
The 1st National Black Peace Corps Volunteer Gathering will be held on Thursday, September 22- Sunday, September 25, 2016. We would like to formally extend an invitation for you and the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Washington, D.C to join us in this exciting weekend.
The objectives for this event are to:
- Strengthen/ Support the Black Returned Peace Corps Volunteers community nationwide;
- Outreach and support retention efforts with African-American/Black prospective applicants and invitees; and
- Supply networking, career and professional building opportunities to all attendees.
As we are nearing the final stages of solidifying our times and location of all scheduled events, we are excited to reunite RCPV cohorts, build a network of new friends and provide a platform for RPCVs to reflect and share their Peace Corps story.
We are looking for a Logistic Task Team Lead and 2 members to support and execute the task team action plan.
Logistics Task Team Lead (Preferably a D.C resident)
- Manages the Task assigned task team
- Become active member of the Planning Committee.
- Attend monthly virtual meeting with the Planning Committee and Chair
- Report to NBPCV Chair (me) and other Planning Committee members on update, challenges and progress.
- Identify one or two task team members as a backup to attend meetings in case of your absence
- Establish Action Plan (next steps)
- Report back to Logistics Task Team on event updates and Action plan
- Delegate task to task team members
Logistics Task Team Member(s)
- Support Task Team Lead in executing Action Plan
- Report to Lead of progress, challenges and updates
- Be willing to perform as Acting Lead in Planning Committee meeting in the absence of the Lead
As the Logistics Task team your duties for the NBPCV Gathering are (but not limited too):
- Liaise with the identified contact for PC swag bags and PC items for registered participants
- Create registration packets
- Manage any updates on the events Facebook page and emails to all attendees

Volunteer Mentoring Opportunity with Higher Achievement
Higher Achievement closes the opportunity gap during the pivotal middle school years. By leveraging the power of communities, Higher Achievement's proven model provides a rigorous year-round learning environment, caring role models, and a culture of high expectations, resulting in college-bound scholars with the character, confidence, and skills to succeed. We are looking for volunteer mentors to teach small groups of 5th- 8th graders in a core academic subjects one night per week at any of our 8 locations. The Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Washington D.C. (RPCV/W) was founded in 1979 and incorporated in 1990 in the District of Columbia. RPCV/W is an independent 501c3 nonprofit organization representing more than 2,500 returned Peace Corps volunteers, Peace Corps staff, and Peace Corps families and supporters in the greater Washington D.C. area. RPCV/W is governed by an elected board of directors and membership is open to all, regardless of Peace Corps service.

To serve as a resource to RPCVs and friends in the Washington DC area through social events, community service projects, and professional development programs that embody the 3rd Goal and spirit of the Peace Corps.
