Leah Griffin, Chief of Engineering Services for Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System, shared slides, construction data and design for the new Montgomery Veterans Facility.

July Field Trip Recap


Leah Griffin, Patricia Adams, Nick Hall and Alva Navarro, of Engineering Services and Valencia McNab, Nurse Manager all of Montgomery VA Clinic presented an overview of the planning and construction of the new facility before touring our group through the facility.
 
The Montgomery Chapter AIA would like to thank Montgomery VA Clinic for their hospitality and providing a tour through their beautiful new state of the art facility.

The Field trip was worth 1 HSW/CEU.

The Auburn University CEU Event

The 2016 Auburn University CEU Event will be held Thursday, August 11, from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Dudley Hall, B6 Parker Auditorium. Registration fees as follows:
$25.00 for AL Architects (non-refundable)
$150 for non-AL Architects
Free for Interns

Three CADC students are among the 105 Auburn student-athletes named to the 2016 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll. Lucas Grady, a senior in architecture, is a Men’s Track & Field athlete (Hurdles/Mid-distance); Veronica Elder is a junior in industrial design and a Women’s Track & Field athlete (Distance/Cross Country); and Marshay Ryan is a junior in architecture and Women’s Track and Field athlete (jumps). The 2016 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2015 Summer, 2015 Fall, and 2016 Spring terms. For more, click here
Two CADC student-athletes are also on the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll list. Among the 84 Auburn Student-athletes are Andrew Autrey (pre-Building Science) and Raymond Lester (Architecture). Each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.  Any student-athlete who participates in a Southeastern Conference championship sport or a student-athlete who participates in a sport listed on his/her institution’s NCAA Sports Sponsorship Form is eligible for nomination to the Academic Honor Roll.

Rachel Hamrick, a senior in the Environmental Design program from Eufaula, Alabama, was one of four recipients of the Outstanding ePortfolio Award for 2016. Hamrick received the honor during the third annual ePortfolio Awards Luncheon hosted by Provost Timothy Boosinger on May 3. She was nominated by Magdalena Garmaz, Environmental Design Program Chair and Ann & Batey Gresham Professor of Architecture.  For more, read here.

2016 AIA Montgomery CEU-n-AUG Event

CEU -n- AUGUST
The Montgomery Chapter of the American Institute of Architects would like to extend to you a personal invitation to join us at our annual CEU-n-AUG event. The event provides a great opportunity for architects and interior designers to view some of the latest building products and technology while also obtaining seven (7) AIA accredited HSW learning units. The full-day event is free to AIA members and to RID/NCIDQ members and you may attend any combinations of seminars being offered or just visit the exhibitors that will be in attendance. Lunch is provided at no cost and door prizes will be given away throughout the day. This event is open to all including architects, AIA members and ($15 for non-members), interior designers, engineers and contractors.

This year’s event will be held at the Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery on Wednesday, August 17th. The Country Club is located at 3001 Narrow Lane Road, Montgomery, AL 36106.
