Hi ,

How are you?

Running season is about to get underway with the Bay Run up next weekend on Sunday 7th August. BSM is again proud to be a Gold Sponsor for this event, which doubles up as a fundraiser for Canteen. Registrations can be done via www.bayrun.com.au. The Bay Run is then followed by the City2Surf on Sunday 14th August and then the Blackmore's Sydney Running Festival on Sunday 18th September. Our run group "Run to Wellbeing" in conjunction with Evolution to Wellbeing Rozelle have been training hard on Thursday and Saturday mornings and are ready to go

The BSM team will be busy throughout August with the upcoming Oxfam Trailwalker 100km to be held over 19-21 August. As the medical provider for this event, we provide the education for the Trailwalkers in the lead up to the event, as well as providing the Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Massage services down at checkpoint 3 at Bobbin Head. It's a great fundraising event for Oxfam in the fight against world poverty.

Both of our Sports Physicians have landed in Rio for the Olympics. Dr Angus Bathgate is looking after the Aussie Men's and Women's Rugby Sevens teams, whilst Dr Scott Burne will be based in the athlete's Poly Clinic. We wish them both well and good luck to all our Australian competitors.

It fills me with joy to live and work in such a vibrant and active community in the inner west. 1 in 3 clients who walk through our clinic door run, or have run, or are trying to return back to running, and given the location of the beautiful Bay Run right on our doorstep this isn’t really a huge surprise. With so many benefits of running, and the convenience, whether it is outdoors or on a treadmill, it’s no wonder running continues to remain to be a popular form of exercise.

Before returning to higher impact exercise, such as running, it is a good idea to have a postnatal assessment with a women’s health physiotherapist. There are many individual factors, such as type of birth and prenatal fitness level that need to be considered alongside an assessment of your pelvic joints, deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. This way, you can be sure to get the right advice for your body and minimise the risk of problems such as back pain, incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse.

In the clinic, we see all types and levels of athletes and non-athletes.  Regardless of the level at which you train, play or compete the concept of ‘load’ is something that we all need to consider. Load can be described as ‘the quantity borne by something’.  The amount of load our body can take varies from person to person.  We can easily visualise ourselves carrying an object, this is a load.
How can you monitor your load ... Read here
Sports Physios James Sutherland and Craig Gregory were busy last weekend at the Australian Triathlon Cycling and Endurance (ATEC) Expo. The BSM marquee was busy with free massages, musculoskeletal screenings, attendees trying out the Recovery Pump and picking up some recovery tools.
