Acting ministers are appointed for four ministries

Summary: Prime Minister J. Erdenebat issued a decree to assign acting ministers to the four ministries that are currently without a head minister until the official appointment can be made. The MPP Board withdrew the four original nominees for the minister position because the Independent Authority Against Corruption cited potential conflicts of interest and strong public outcry. The Minister of Road and Transportation D. Ganbat is the acting Minister of Construction and Urban Development; the Deputy Prime Minister U. Khurelsukh is the acting Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry; the Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry Ts. Dashdorj is the acting Minister of Energy; and the newly appointed Minister of Labor and Social Welfare MP N. Nomtoibayar is the acting Minister of Health. The new cabinet held its first official meeting yesterday and discussed issues including the financial aid needed for the flood-stricken Bayan-Ulgii province, the structure of the ministries and agencies, and the limit of vacancies.

PM appoints the governors of 18 provinces

Summary: Prime Minister J. Erdenebat has appointed the Governors of eighteen provinces. The local Representative Councils of the remaining three provinces, Gobi-Altai, Bayan-Ulgii and Zavkhan have yet to hold their official meetings. Therefore, the PM proceeded with the appointment of the eighteen other provinces and announced the names of new Governors to the public. Newly appointed Governors are: Arkhangai Province – Ts. Munkhnasan; Bayankhongor Province – G. Batjargal; Bulgan Province – S. Batzorig; Darkhan-Uul Province – S. Nasanbat; Dornod Province – M. Badamsuren; Dornogovi Province – T. Enkhtuvshin; Dundgovi Province – O. Bat – Erdene; Govisumber Province – G. Batsuuri; Khentii Province – N. Ganbyamba; Khovd Province – D. Galsandondog; Khuvsgul Province – L. Tumurbaatar; Umnugovi Province – N. Naranbaatar; Orkhon Province – D. Batlut; Uvurkhangai Province – G. Ganbold; Selenge Province – Sh. Orgil; Sukhbaatar Province – Z. Enkhtur; Tuv Province – J. Batjarga; and Uvs Province – D. Batsaikhan.

Mongolia to supply beef and mutton to Ningxia Province

Summary: As a result of the meeting between the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of the Ningxia Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China He Zhengrong, Memorandums of Understanding were signed between Khuvsgul and Bayankhongor Provinces to cooperate in the area of meat trade. Additionally, Zavkhan Foods LLC signed a contract on foreign trade with Jun Nang Corporation located in Ningxia Province.

Speaker of the Parliament meets with Founder of Alibaba Group Jack Ma

Summary: The Speaker of the Parliament M. Enkhbold met with the Founder of Alibaba Group Jack Ma upon his visit to Mongolia. The Speaker revealed that the MPP is planning to create favorable legal conditions and to provide foreign investors with stability and support. Jack Ma noted the improvement Mongolia has made in the past three years since his last visit in 2013 and highlighted the importance of improving the business environment and developing the service and infrastructure departments. Additionally, the founder of Alibaba Group expressed interest in cooperating with Mongolia on the service, agriculture, finance and investment, and tourism sectors.

The structure of the new Cabinet is approved

Summary: The new Cabinet held its first official meeting and the Minister of Mongolia and Head of the Cabinet Secretariat J. Munkhbat held a press conference to announce the decisions made by the new members of the Cabinet. The new Cabinet will be comprised of 13 ministries with total of 1,380 employees as opposed to the previous Cabinet, which consisted of 15 ministries and 1,490 employees. Additionally, it was decided that all departments of the newly structured ministries will operate without deputy directors.
