Family First Comment: Melinda spoke at our 2011 Forum on the Family. A great ally in the field. Well worth attending her upcoming talks in August in Wgn & Chch.

Advocates for women and girls are calling on New Zealand to address its role in the global trade for females’ bodies.

Australian advocate for women and girls Melinda Tankard Reist, is touring New Zealand with Hagar New Zealand in August to speak on the objectification of women and sexualisation of girls.

“It would be fair to say that NZ is facing the same challenges in regards to sexualisation of girls in media, advertising and popular culture as pretty much every other country in the West,” she said.

The writer, speaker and advocate stressed that the eroticisation of children was driving exploitation.

“When we post and style little girls to look more mature and older than they really are, when we ‘adultify’ them in advertising, this can contribute to providing permission to perpetrators to think that little girls are sexually interesting and sexually desirable.”

Tankard Reist said the problem stemmed from a lack of respect and concern for the human rights of women and girls.

“Add to that the desire to make money from their bodies and vested interests of those who stand to gain.”

It’s the end for CYF – AGAIN!

CYF logoFaces of Innocents: CYF to be shut down and replaced by a new ministry
Stuff co.nz 28 July 2016
Family First Comment: This sentence sums it up.
“CYF’s name has been subtly changed three times before and it’s been restructured at least 14 times since its inception in 1992.”
The Govt can’t spend their way or name-change or restructure out of family breakdown. They need to look at the causes – declining marriage rates, increased family breakdown, increasing drugs and alcohol abuse and associated mental illness, welfare dependency.
#familystructurematters

The long and chequered story of Child, Youth and Family will be officially at an end by March 2017, replaced by a new agency. Katie Kenny reports for the Faces of Innocents project.

A new Ministry for Vulnerable Children will take over from CYF in April next year.

It’s understood a chief executive for the new Government department has already been picked.

While “Ministry for Vulnerable Children” is expected to be the new name for the department, this has not been finalised by Cabinet.

However, the transformation programme is well under way with an extra $347 million allocated in the Budget for the care and protection of children and young people.

CYF’s name has been subtly changed three times before and it’s been restructured at least 14 times since its inception in 1992.

“CYF as we know it will no longer exist after March 2017,” acting Minister for Social Development Hekia Parata said on Wednesday.

Reality Check: Hillary Clinton’s history with same-sex marriage

Jul 28, 2016 11:05 am

Hillary Clinton

KRDO.com 27 July 2016
Family First Comment: Gosh – Hillary used to believe in Marriage as one man one woman. But politics slowly changed that.

“Could have been sooner.” During the primary season, “Saturday Night Live” comic Kate McKinnon schooled Hillary Clinton on punctuality when it came to supporting same-sex marriage equality.

At the star-studded second night of the Democratic National Convention, former President Bill Clinton praised his wife’s efforts toward international human rights — focusing on women and the LGBT community.

“She went to Beijing in 1995 and said that women’s rights are human rights and human rights are women’s rights,” he said. “She worked to empower women and girls around the world.”

While many would agree the first major party female presidential nominee has aggressively advocated gender equality, it’s important to question whether she made “the same exact declaration on behalf of the LGBT community” as Bill Clinton claimed.

Hillary Clinton initially expressed staunch disagreement with same-sex marriage during her first run for Senate. In early 2000, she stated plainly: “I think a marriage is as a marriage has always been, between a man and a woman.” She quickly clarified that she was strongly supportive of civil unions, but maintained her stance against same-sex marriage well into her term as senator.

In 2006, she told gay rights activists that she would support same-sex marriage if it was introduced in New York. However, she still expressed greater comfort with “states making the decisions.”

Throughout the 2008 presidential campaign, Clinton remained opposed to same-sex marriage. She did come out and support repealing portions of the Defense of Marriage Act — a law her husband signed in 1996 that prohibited same-sex couples from accessing certain benefits.

In 2011 Clinton declared, “Gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights,” and following her resignation in February 2013, she quickly came out in support of the growing marriage equality movement, saying LGBT Americans should be treated as “full and equal citizens, and they deserve the rights of citizenship. That includes marriage.”

While Hillary Clinton has certainly warmed to the gay community during her political career, Bill Clinton’s implication that Hillary has supported gay rights throughout the years is false. http://www.krdo.com/news/cnns-reality-check-team-vets-the-dnc-claims/40901124
