It is a rather stormy start to 2015, and we hope that everyone stays safe as strong winds sweep the country. The storms created travel chaos for those heading back to Scotland after another successful Oxford Farming Conference, details of which can be found here http://www.ofc.org.uk/
This week saw Lord President Lord Gill give a strong ruling in the Court of Session that the Lord Advocate should pay half the costs incurred by the landowner during part of the long-running Salvesen-Riddell legal proceedings.
This latest ruling yet again underlines the need for any legislation in the very complex area of agricultural law to be fair and measured and to be examined with the utmost care, otherwise there is a real risk of infringement of human rights legislation. Further details are provided below.
