Ovitz Corp. Seeks Business Development Intern for Spring 2015 Semester

Ovitz Corp. is looking for an undergraduate student who is majoring in business, marketing, or a related major to contribute to our marketing and business development strategy for our first product.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with the Business Development officer and Marketing Adviser to build Ovitz’ marketing operations.
  • Aid in the development of strategic marketing plans for customers, investors, and other key stakeholders
  • Conduct research on selected customer segments
  • Collaborate in drafting and editing grant/business plan competition content
  • Maintain company’s social media and website
  • Attend weekly business meetings


Responsibilities do NOT include:

  • Random admin duties
  • Projects that don’t matter


Qualities that will help you stand out:

  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Willingness to learn
  • Strong desire to better the world

SoundExChange Awarded $100,000 Grant

Sound ExChange was recently awarded a $100,000 grant from the Max and Marian Farash Charitable Foundation. The ensemble was founded by Emily Wozniak ’09E, ’13E (MM) and consists of a collective of Eastman School of Music students whose goal isto "reinvigorate classical music."


CampusFly Advances in Syracuse's Student Startup Madness Competition

CampusFly, founded by financial economics major Ervis Vukaj '16, was selected to advance in Syracuse University's Student Startup Madness Competition. There were more than 150 entries and the field has been narrowed to 64 student startups from 33 colleges and universities. Finalists will present during South By Southwest (SXSW) Interactive in Austin, Texas in March.

Seeking advice from a seasoned entrepreneur? Take advantage of the University of Rochester Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIRs) program. Gregg Steinberg, managing director of Charlemagne Global Advisory and serial entrepreneur, and Michael Wohl ’89, managing partner of ClimateHedge Investments and Greenspace Capital and a serial entrepreneur, will hold office hours at the Center for Entrepreneurship, 1-211 Carol Simon Hall (unless otherwise noted), on several dates in January:

Assessing the Market Opportunity Lecture: 1/20

Part of the Technology Commercialization at the University of Rochester Lecture Series, this event will entail a more detailed discussion of the assessment of commercial value for University innovations on Tuesday, January 20 from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Gowen Room, Wilson Commons. Using a mixture of theory and concrete examples, this session will cover topics such as the use of market research reports, identifying and assessing competing technologies, the Customer Discovery Process, and identifying the Minimum Viable Product for your technology. Patrick Emmerling, licensing manager for UR Ventures will present. The talk is free and open to the University community and the general public. Lunch is provided but please bring your own beverage. 2015 Rochester Venture Challenge Now Accepting Applications

Online registration for the 2015 Rochester Venture Challenge, formerly the Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest, is open now through January 23. The goal of the competition is to encourage entrepreneurship among all who enter while recognizing and rewarding the most promising new ventures and start-up companies in the nine-county Finger Lakes Region. Companies compete by submitting an executive summary and giving an investor presentation. The registration fee is $150 per company and includes participation of two company representatives in preparatory workshops.


UVANY Capital Forum Presents The Mighty Middle Market: 1/15

Please join UVANY and its event partners including Summer Street Capital, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, the Business Council of New York State and the Niagara USA Chamber for "The Mighty Middle Market," a presentation and discussion on economic opportunities and challenges facing "middle market" business in New York State. The event will take place on Thursday, January 15 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Saturn Club, 977 Delaware Ave. in Buffalo. Register online. A fee applies.
