Ras il-Ħobż

Ras il-Ħobż, or as otherwise known Middle Finger, is best described as a huge column rising from the deep and stopping just 9 metres below the surface.  Middle Finger is the name given by divers to this site due to the particular natural formation of the peak of this pinnacle.

The narrow channel between this rock and the shore (right side of above photo) is 35 metres deep whereas on the seaward side, the bottom drops dramatically to 100+ metres.  These features make this dive ideal for all level of divers... beginners, experienced, as well as technical divers.  A nearby plateau is just 5 metres deep, perfect for training or for making a prolonged decompression stop more interesting!

At 63 metres technical divers can find a huge 3-prong anchor protruding out from the reef wall (insert top left).  Moreover, an abundance of fish life is generally encountered on this site.

These photos were taken at Ras il-Ħobż on Gozo’s south coast.
