Are you new to First Christian? Wondering who we are? Would you like to know more? If you're just getting started, we suggest attending “New Beginnings” January 11 from 11:30-1:30. We’ll gather after church for lunch and conversation with Rev. Troy Tatum and other key leaders.

Designed especially for visitors and new members of our congregation, “New Beginnings” will help you learn more about First Christian Church and its ministries as well as the Disciples of Christ denomination. Contact the church office to sign up or Robin Blakemore for more information.

A Message for New and Returning Deacons

Fellow Deacons,

Please plan to attend a meeting immediately following Sunday worship on January 11th to elect a new chair and Missions Council representatives. In addition to the normal duties as deacon, other responsibilities of the chair include:

Purchases communion supplies (cups and juice) and monitors inventory
Makes sure there is deacon coverage for special services
Represents the Diaconate at monthly Missions Council meetings
Is a member of Worship Mission and Executive Council
Schedules and conducts Diaconate meetings as necessary

Four deacons will be selected to serve as voting members of the Missions Council and attend monthly meetings. If we decide to continue having Captains/Alternate Captains for each class, then appointments may be made during the meeting as well. Please let me know if there are any questions about these responsibilities. Additionally, we’ll have a brief training session for new deacons following this meeting.

Resurrection
January 16-19
Our youth are excited Resurrection is almost here. Resurrection is a massive youth conference in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where thousands of teenagers gather to worship, learn, and grow. The theme this year, BE KNOWN, invites us to dive into our relationship with God who knows and loves us as we are. With a dynamic speaker and powerful worship leadership, we will encounter God in life-changing ways. We ask you to pray for us as we travel, share, and worship! For all those registered for Resurrection, look for final paperwork in the mail the first week of January. Final Payments for Resurrection are now due.

Jimmy Langley: Writer, Artist, Storyteller

"The more people i meet, the more i like my dog." Everyone needs to have a favorite Southern Saying in their back pocket to pull out and use at the proper occasion.

Jimmy is a storyteller, artist and published author of three books. His interest in collecting southern sayings started about seven years ago. His book, "Delmont's Slang Blade" contains a portion of his collection. His work has been covered and published by regional newspapers and magazines.
