  February 2015
Welcome to our February 2015 email newsletter
Dear Residents

I am delighted to welcome you to the February newsletter from Baildon Town Council.

It is now only three months until election day, when all the seats on Baildon Town Council will be contested

If you are interested in standing for election to the Town Council please take a look at the information lower down in this newsletter. By becoming a Town Councillor, you could play an important role in improving the well-being of the community in Baildon. If, however, you don’t feel this is for you, please encourage someone you know to consider standing for election.

Following the public consultation last summer, which demonstrated that most residents were keen for the Town Council to continue to address a wide range of local issues (and which led to the preparation of the Baildon Plan Update), the Town Council has now set its budget for 2015-16.  The budget will not only provide the resources for continuation of existing projects, such as community activities, Christmas lights, and the Farmers’ Market, but will also allow for the planned reopening of Bracken Hall Countryside Centre as an important community resource, under the management of the Town Council. In setting next year’s budget, the Council also took into account the fact that Bradford Council is having to review and cut public services, and that there may well, in future, be other local services which residents would want the Town Council to be able to step in and save.

Whilst the Town Council did not raise the precept at all for the current year, it has been decided that the annual precept for 2015-16 will need to rise from £15.32 for a Band D property to £16.92. We believe that most residents will feel that paying what is the equivalent of just 33p per week per Band D household is good value for money when considering the Town Council’s many and varied projects and its continuing commitment  to the well-being of Baildon residents.

Thank you to all of you who already do so much to contribute to making Baildon such a lovely place to live. Your Town Council is committed to continuing to do all it can to promote co-operation between Councillors, our public services, community, voluntary and faith organisations, and residents, so that, together, we can Build-an-even-Better Baildon.

Best wishes
Chris Flecknoe

BE COMMUNITY: through providing information and encouragement to local residents to volunteer for practical or management tasks with local voluntary and community groups;
BE DEMENTIA FRIENDLY: by supporting the development of Baildon as a Dementia-friendly Community.
