CALENDAR PLANNING MEETING

Sunday, January 11

All current Team leaders and group heads, please attend our important meeting on Jan. 11 at 4:00.   We will place major dates on the calendar through August!

2015 Discipleship Commitments

On January 4 during worship, we were blessed to dedicate our 2015 Discipleship Commitments for the glory of the Lord!   All of your sealed commitment envelopes from the manger were placed inside the “Joy of Giving” box. They will remain in the box behind the altar throughout the year, as a sign of our ongoing commitments to God to grow in worship & devotion, witness & service, study & learning, and giving of treasure & time.    If you have not yet completed your personal discipleship commitment, you may still do so.   Commitment slips/envelopes are available in the narthex (or call the office).  Simply place your sealed commitment in the offering plate or mail it to the office – we will then add it the “Joy of Giving” box.   Let us join in prayer for one another, to faithfully keep our discipleship commitments in the year ahead!

1045am Nursery Volunteers needed!

Has God been tugging at your heart to serve God's children?  We have lots of little ones joining us during at the 1045am worship service and we need one adult per Sunday to help staff our nursery.  You don't need to have any special skills except the desire to care and love for God's children.  We also are grateful that one of our Preschool Teachers (First Aid/CPR trained) also serves in the Nursery, so there will be 2 total adults in there. Please contact Lexanne at Lexanne@LivingSpringsColumbia.org if you are willing to serve God in this way.

Lessons for Sunday, January 11

First Reading: Genesis 1:1–5

Out of chaos, God brings order. Out of the primeval darkness, God brings light. This familiar story was good news for the Israelites, who experienced much chaos in their history. It remains good news for any person living in the chaos and darkness of despair. God created and continues to create new life.

Psalm (ELW): Psalm 29

The voice of the LORD is upon the waters. (Ps. 29:3)

Second Reading: Acts 19:1–7

In Ephesus, Paul encounters people who had received John's baptism of repentance but had never heard of the Holy Spirit or of baptism in the name of Jesus. After Paul baptized them, the Holy Spirit came upon them and empowered them with gifts of the Spirit.

Gospel: Mark 1:4–11

Mark's gospel reports the story of Jesus' baptism with some irony: the one on whom the Spirit descends is himself the one who will baptize others with the Holy Spirit.
