Community Engagement Core Highlights
LSU SRP Community Engagement Core partnered with the Louisiana Environmental Action Network (LEAN), a non-profit alliance of grassroots environmental organizations, to develop educational materials in response to the needs of residents and to “lead the leaders” of local environmental groups. The LSU CEC is developing a resource book, The Louisiana Citizen’s Guide to Environmental Engagement, for local organizers to address questions posed to LEAN. Topics addressed will include strategies for reducing exposure risks, how to communicate with industry and public agency representatives, and tools for gathering and recording data about local environmental conditions. The CEC is also utilizing geo-spatial methodologies to provide LEAN with additional insight into the demographic and socioeconomic attributes of all Superfund communities in Louisiana.
