President's Message

As we step in to the new year, there is much to be thankful for, and yet much to do!  The Twinsburg Chamber Board of Directors held the first meeting of 2015 on January 14th, at the Twinsburg Library.  Looking back on 2014, it became very apparent that this Chamber is growing and improving!

Our membership numbers and member participation are up, and we relate that to the hard work of our Executive Director, Abby Fechter, and of course the tireless efforts of the all-volunteer Board of Directors. Our Outreach Committee, led by Michelle Willmott, worked very hard to create our new and improved web-site and solicited volunteers to promote our Chamber at the Twins Days Festival.

The Annual Chamber Golf Outing, chaired by Jim Sukys, had more golfers, more profit and more fun last year.  (Save the date: June 12, 2015).  The Annual Clambake became a "Fall Festival", under the direction of Tom Lane, thanks to ideas and support from the City of Twinsburg Parks & Recreation and Service Departments.  This October event is quickly becoming a family fun activity.

The membership numbers improved, under the watchful eyes of Andy Schunk.  This is obviously the "Life Blood" of our Organization.  Twinsburg Women in Networking (T.W.I.N.), the brainchild of Judy Caine, held its first highly successful  Women's Expo in January of 2014, and repeated their efforts last week.  Held on January 29th, the 2015 Women's Expo was well-attended and considered a huge success.

Your Twinsburg Chamber also kicked off a new partnership with the Counsel Of Smaller Enterprises (C.O.S.E.), which promises to bring more benefits, opportunities and resources to our members.  Thank you to all Members and Board Members for your loyalty and hard work!

Looking forward, I see an even greater year coming!  Our next event is the Annual State of the City Address.  This will be a morning event, held on Thursday, February 12th at 8:30 am.  Please join us as we welcome Mayor Katherine Procop to the Hilton Garden Inn for this important address.

We will be holding 2015's first  "Twinsburg @ Twilight" on February 19th from 5:30-7:30, at New Adventures Early Learning Center, located at  8054 Darrow Road, Twinsburg.

We are happy to also be a part of a luncheon at the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, to announce a welcome new addition of a Manufacturing Program and Facility.  The Manufacturing luncheon will be held at the Career Center on Tuesday, February 24th, from 11:30-1:30.

As always, you can get more information by calling Abby or Paula at the Chamber at 330-963-6249.  Have a Great Month.

"Social Employee: How Great Companies Make Social Media Work" by Mark and Cheryl Burgess

In the social age, the image of a company is no longer controlled by a charismatic CEO, clever advertising, or carefully choreographed media relations. It's determined collectively by the amount of time the firm's customers and employees are engaging in online social media. The roadmap for encouraging and developing employees with a stronger social presence is outlined by Cheryl and Mark Burgess in the book The Social Employee: How Great Companies Make Social Media Work.

Companies can create an overwhelming digital presence by encouraging their staff to actively distribute and participate.  Insist each employee has a personal page which includes space for a blog and make sure they are using the blogs regularly  Make sure they are also involved in communities and encourage them to post files. Guarantee employees also share information on wikis and send instant messages daily.  Also, encourage staff to be on social media sites where they share company information.  They should be on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Enterprises that embrace the concept of The Social Employee will be well positioned to thrive in the coming decade. Those that ignore this phenomenon may put their companies at risk.
