Are those Haythorpes crazy or what??!! Well, to answer that question...

Update New Years 2015

Jesus said, “Don’t be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me." John 14:1

I honestly don’t know why I’ve struggled writing this update. Maybe its because of the surrounding circumstances with my work, or maybe its because I’m far from my family… Any way you look at it, the words are just not coming out.

As I’ve been sitting here thinking, I’ve asked myself this question: Are we actually crazy?

4 Contents in 2 weeks! Who does that?!!
2.5 weeks ago, I arrived back to America (continent 1) from leading the DTS outreach in Africa (continent 2). We had an incredible time of seeing, not only others' lives impacted but, our student’s lives completely transformed as they stepped out and served others.

The kids did incredible as they exercised their faith by sharing Jesus with others and just loving on the other kids around them. They played with kids at creche (preschool), shared in youth gatherings and helped teach memory verses. They came alive there and I wish we could have stayed longer. I definitely think we’ll be taking them back to South Africa in the future! They were also given a little treat while we were in London (continent 3) en route to home. While we were Heathrow Airport's play area, Father Christmas (AKA Santa) came in with a big bag of chocolates and spoiled them. They had a blast!

Last week, I sent Luke and the kids to Australia (continent 4) ahead of me. There were some changes within the DTS that needed tending to and I wanted Luke to have as much time as possible with his family, so I stayed. We have been so blessed by his family’s generosity to get us tickets to be there for his brother’s wedding. It has been 4 years since we have gone back to Australia as a family… it was LONG overdue!

DTS Changes
Some of the changes that have taken place in the DTS is because we have not seen the financial needs (details below) of the students met. We were originally going to send the second outreach team to Latin America but, because of the circumstances, we've decided to merge the teams to stay in San Jose.

Yesterday as I was driving back from the post office, I was reminiscent of my time in South Africa and thinking of how we can better partner with the ministries over there.  While at a traffic light, I looked to the right and saw 2 prostitutes walking past. In that moment my heart was recaptured for my city and my neighborhood. I was reminded why we were called to this city and now I'm expectant as we unleash our outreach team back into some local work.

New Year
Yesterday was my birthday... aaaannnndd it was also the last day of 2014 (I like to mention my birthday, just because I can. Haha!)

Anyway, it has been a crazy year! Are we crazy? Well, we're definitely unconventional. We are, however, crazy in love with God. We are just people who are learning to live by the Spirit and listen to the Lord. And although sometimes we won't know where things are going, we do our best to be obedient and step out in faith no matter what the risk.

John 3:8 says, "The wind blows wherever it wants to. You hear it, but you don’t know where it is coming from or where it is going. It is the same with everyone who is born from the Spirit.”

Sometimes we don't know which direction the wind (The Spirit) is taking us, but we're definitely going anyway! As it is a NEW year, which means new beginnings, what can YOU trust the Lord with as you walk into 2015?

Welcome 2015... we're diving right on in!

Much Love,
Angela and Luke

Haythorpe Happenings

Christmas
Through all the travel, we still found time to gather with family and celebrate Christmas. We as a family has a super simple Christmas but we really enjoyed the simplicity of it all. We also had tons of fun with the DTS as we had an ugly sweater party complete with Luke in an elf costume and some karaoke... add some turkey and eggnog and life feels a bit more complete.

Hope your Christmas was just as fun and perspective shifting as ours!

More on our current needs...

Ministry Matters

Please be praying for us. The students on the DTS have an accumulated need of $15,000. Over their time of outreach, they will also be fundraising to cover their tuition and outreach costs.

Scholarship Opportunity
Being as we are a new pioneering center, we did not have the extra funds to offer scholarships to any of our students. Although she didn't have all her funds, as we prayed, we felt it right to have Daham come attend our DTS. She is a fairly new Christian, excited about following Jesus and is thriving on the DTS. Daham is from Korea and although she has been working so hard and consistently fundraising she has seen very little movement on meeting her school fees. We'd like to extend an invitation for anyone interested in contributing toward her school fees as we try to build a scholarship for her. If you would like to help, please click here. Prayer Requests

Family:

Quality Time - It seems like we've been really busy since the DTS has been going. Please be praying with get lots of quality time with our children and each other as we spend a couple of weeks in Australia!

Travel - I leave Saturday night to head to Australia. We will be together for a bit and then Luke will head back to the USA early to be with the outreach team. There is a lot of travel between the 6 of us. Please be praying for safety as we finish up this season's travel.

Personal Finances - We've seen a bit of a "dry season" with incoming finances (which happens around Christmas) o we're asking for prayer for God's provision over our current and upcoming needs.

Ministry:

Fundraising -  As expressed, we need to see some breakthrough with the finances for the DTS Students. BE praying for provision as well as deep learning as they fundraise.
