Our revised League Night format was a success including the participation drawing for various prizes including the St. Croix Tournament Legend Rod. We hope to add some additional modifications in 2015 to create more encouragement and comrade opportunities among members especially those new to our Chapter. I challenge everyone this year to get one new NMMI member and one new youth involved with Muskie fishing.
During the December meeting all of the current Officers were re-elected for another year including myself as your President. Thanks to the increased membership on the Board including new Board Member John Genosky, I was convinced to give it another year. We can always use more Board and committee members. The more we have the more we can do and the more fun and friendships made. We thank Guide Matt Seifert for his outstanding and very informative talk and definitely look forward to him speaking to us again in the near future.
I have been working with Metro DNR Fisheries Departments on their 2015 needs for support from the North Metro and for our annual Hugh C. Becker Foundation Grant Request. Special focus to protect the Muskie brood stock will be replacing the aerators on Lake Rebecca which are very old and similar ones have been failing around the state.
The 2015 NMMI All–You-Can-Eat Fish Fry Banquet is fast approaching so make your plans now to attend and let us know if you can help out. There will be more games and fewer awards in order to keep improving your overall experience. If you have anything to donate or wish to assist with the Banquet on February 28th please let us know.
Photos are needed the newsletter, the Muskie Expo and for the Banquet (Feb 28th, 2015) so them to me.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Coon Rapids VFW for the January meeting and the February Banquet.

To promote muskellunge research;
To introduce the species into suitable waters;
To support the abatement of water pollution;
To disseminate muskellunge information;
To promote good fellowship and sportsmanship among men, women and children;
To encourage and support youth involvement in muskellunge fishing for our future.

13 year old Alec Ahlberg caught his first Muskie this summer on Lake Vermilion.
Alec has had a passion for fishing ever since he landed is first northern (7.4 lbs.) when he was 6 years old. Since that day he has caught some impressive Large Mouth Bass, Sunfish and Northern Pike but had never been Muskie fishing.
On his first Muskie fishing trip and on the first day out, he hauled in a nice 40" Muskie, the kid has got luck. Unbelievable, before the trip was over he also caught and released a 38" Northern Pike and battled a second Muskie on the last day for ~30 minutes before we could land it.

Here’s a New Year Resolution That You Can Live With
Resolved for 2015: Be a vital part of an annual outing that combines great fishing on beautiful shield waters with a resort base that is clean and comfortable, and is owned and run by a family that knows what muskie people need, and where everything works.
Smart move to act on the above resolution. Make it happen! Join the 2015 Muskie Inc. Red Wing Lodge Outing. Dates for the coming season: August 8-15, 2015. Last summer 25 fishermen enjoyed this trip, open to Muskie Inc. Chapter members and their guests. This annual Muskie trip to Red Wing Lodge on Sabaskong Bay, Lake of the Woods, is a great choice for that first Canadian trip or for the veteran’s extra trip. Save your surprises for muskie action, you don’t need them at base camp. Red Wing Lodge offers a resort base that has been family owned and operated for more than 45 years.
The Bartlett family has hosted Muskie Inc. outings for years with personal and friendly service, so they understand what muskie people need and like. Red Wing Lodge is a nine-time Chapter Challenge headquarters, in ’83, ’86, ’93, ’97, ’03, ’04, ’11, ’12, and again in 2014. Check out the muskie information, including the Red Wing Lodge Hall of Fame, as well as the first live cam in Morson, at www.redwinglodge.net
Cost per person in housekeeping cabins will be $350 (US Funds) for 2015, just $50.00 per day for big-time Canadian muskie fishing.
Included in the full value of the 2015 Muskie Inc. trip:
- Free Dockage ($72 value), Free Launch (both ways, $25 value)
- Free Dinner one night, courtesy of the Bartlett’s
- One Free Trip, given away in drawing, courtesy of the Bartlett’s
- Free Wireless Internet Service throughout the Resort
- Free Daily Bag of Ice; door prizes
Reservations require a $50 non-refundable deposit, made out to Red Wing Lodge. Deposits officially confirm reservation holds. First come, first served.
Early deposits are appreciated by the Bartletts, these funds are used to purchase materials for cabin improvements, most of which can only be made over the winter.
