JUSTIN JAMES PRESENTS: refused. RADIO

EPISODE #014|RORY PQ

This week on refused. radio we hear from the Detroit born, DJ/Producer Rory PQ. Rory PQ is an honourable mention, as he’s become an integral part of the production of refused. thus far. Along with being a very skilled producer and DJ, who has strongly focused his attention on the education of electronic music, we are excited to have Rory bring his artistic style, and warm deep house tracks to refused. radio, and demonstrate the labels versatility.

In this one hour mix we hear twelve deep, sexy, and funky house tracks. Rory PQ starts things out on the deep side as we hear from Digitaria and Clarian with â€œFavourite Addiction.” This track has a sweet hypnotizing vocal which reels you in, and gets you moving. The groove continues with Kevin Over’s â€œJodye” with a number of other artists such as Robosonic, Kruse & Nuremberg Kevin Knap, Christian Vlad, and Steve Hope with a remix from Teenage Mutants of â€œLeaving.” The set flips the switch and turns up the energy with a cool re-work of DJ Philip’s â€œDark Beat” when you hear Vintage Culture’s â€œDeep Inside.” We also hear from Icarus, MotezThe Beatangers and Sirus Hood and the set leads out at peak energy with a bit of a g-house vibe.

ABOUT Rory PQ
Emerging from Detroit's vibrant underground scene is an artist who has spent some time behind the curtains developing his craft and preparing to make a grand entrance into the music scene.
Rory PQ has been busy making a name for himself as a devoted producer, performer, and technologist with a focus on music education. Stylistically, his productions embrace the warm sounds of deep house and chic grooves of Indie Dance and Nu Disco. Yet his taste in music is eclectic, and his craft harnesses a variety of music influences and inspirations aimed to add a deep sense of musicality into electronic music through instrumental nuances and melodies.

As an artist, Rory PQ has a deep-rooted passion for music and creativity. He is continuously working hard to further develop his sound and knowledge. His artistic ambition and devotion to evolve his craft drives him as an aspiring artist. Overcoming challenges of paralysis as a disabled Coast Guard Veteran, Rory continues to discover adaptive techniques and creative new ways to push forward while pursuing his musical endeavors.

Broadening his musical horizons, Rory is also actively introducing various artists to the vast creative possibilities of electronic music production through tutorial articles as a contributing author at Dubspot, Detroit Ableton User Group workshops, online tutorial videos, studio training sessions, and written guides. His enthusiasm for experimentation and fascination for unique sounds has inspired him to develop cutting-edge Ableton Live Instrument and Effect Racks, Project Templates, custom Lemur interfaces, and synth presets for artists worldwide.

2011 brought the launch of Sub÷Divizion Music, a record label and production service company co-founded by Rory that offers an arsenal of music tools and products, audio services, sound reinforcement, and educational resources to an expanding network of artists. Sub÷Divizion has quickly evolved into a global community of musicians, DJs, producers, visual artists, and enthusiasts of all genres who share a genuine passion for music and its subculture. The fundamental goal is to educate and inspire, while enhancing the culture of art, technology and music.

2014 marked the launch of the Windsor based recording label ‘refused.’, and with it, another opportunity for Rory to take on the role as label manager and web development manager. ‘refused.’ is a new techno label curated by Justin James as a means to contribute to the special culture of underground music with forward thinking tunes from himself, established artists, and up-and-coming talent from around the globe.
Rory PQ is a propelling name you’ll soon recognize as he sets off to embark on his musical journey. As an artist, label manager, educator, business owner, and Dubspot student, Rory continues to explore musical aesthetics and concepts to encapsulate ideas and create rhythmic and harmonic grooves. He believes sharing ideas and knowledge will inspire other artists in an effort to help music evolve and grow.
