WHAT'S NEW

Safe Winter Driving Tips-or How to Get to Your Shift On Time and in One Piece!

Winter driving conditions can be unpredictable, placing extra demands on your vehicle and your driving skills. Ensure you are well prepared for winter roads and always adjust your driving speed to road and weather conditions.

Always be sure you have sufficient windshield washer fluid in the reservoir. You may wish to keep an extra container in the vehicle. Have your tires checked before winter begins. Remember to check tire air pressure frequently, as the tire pressure decreases in cold weather.

Also consider changing to winter tires that provide better traction, braking and handling during frost, snow, slush, and particularly under icy conditions. Installing four winter tires provides greater control and stability.

It's a good idea to keep a winter survival kit in your vehicle. Having essential supplies can provide comfort and safety for you and your passengers should you become stranded. Basic items such as a flashlight and some candles, as well as a hat, gloves and something to keep you warm if you are stranded in your car. If you are stranded, it's always best to stay in your car to avoid personal injury and exposure to the cold.

PSWs who have not attended our PSW Training Sessions that were offered in November will be contacted over the next few months by the Staffing Office to book you into an upcoming session. The training session provides a review of standards and expectations in your role as a PSW, as well as provides an update on new facility requirements for documenting patient care.

Mackenzie Health Assignments: Mackenzie Health will be a new facility where Carecor will be providing staff. The facility is located in Richmond Hill (close to the intersection of Major Mackenzie/Bathurst Street). If you are an RN, RPN or PSW who are interested in being assigned to work at Mackenzie Health, please notify the Carecor Staffing Office. Note that RNs and RPNs will be required to attend mandatory computer training and skills orientation training sessions. Stay tuned for more details on the training.

Staffing Office Reminders:
A reminder that all staff are expected to arrive 15 minutes before the start of their assignment. This ensures you have time to sign-in, to store your coat/belongings and to be ready to take report from the outgoing shift. If you are running late, you need to contact the Carecor Staffing Office so we can let the unit know you will be late and your estimated time of arrival. Once you arrive on the unit, you must contact the Carecor Staffing Office to confirm the actual time of your arrival on the unit. When you are late, you are only paid from the time you arrive on the unit. Caregivers who are staying to cover any lateness will be entitled to be paid for this extra time - please complete the 'Additional Hours Worked Form' and have the form signed by an authorized facility person, and send the form to the Carecor Staffing Office at the end of your shift. Also call the Carecor Staffing Office to let us know that you have stayed later.
