Last week we let go of our great Marketing Managers from last year and now we can finally introduce the arrivals to the new team! Our group include, Jens Lundén (PR, Communications and Social Media), Hanna Hedin (Finance), Madeleine Gustâv and Jacob Neckmar (both Event Managers). They look forward to meeting you all this spring and just below you can read the bio of one of the Marketing Managers; Jens Lundén!

Jens Lundén Bio
Having spent several years growing up in Singapore, Jens moved back to Sweden and Stockholm with his family at the age of nine. After finishing high school, ten years later, he went travelling for months back and forth around, more or less, every corner of the world. Meanwhile during this period, Jens also worked for different start-ups within e-commerce in Stockholm.

After a few years of travelling and working in vibrant environments, Jens returned to studies and enrolled at Lund University where he recently finished his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing. Contributing to the student-life in Lund was a big part of his experience, partaking in everything from social, career and educational projects. Jens even took a year off his studies to work full-time as a board member and Head of Communications at the student union for Business and Economics.

Finishing up his studies, applying and being offered the chance to move to Los Angeles and work at SACC-LA, Jens looks forward to use previous experiences to develop the Chamber’s business, take it to even greater success, and also learn more about the American business culture.

Interview with Mikael Berg, Director of "Miss Julie"

"Miss Julie" will have it's screening on Saturday, January 24th at the Scandinavian Film Festival L.A., SACC-LA took the opportunity to ask a few questions to the film's director.

How does it feel to be a part of the Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. 2015 with Miss Julie?

SFFLA's ambition is to bring the best films from the Nordic countries to Southern California. I am very proud of the fact that "Miss Julie" will represent Sweden along with Ruben Östlund's "Force Majeure" and Roy Andersson's "A Pigeon Sat On A Branch Contemplating Existence".

Can you tell us what the film is about?

The film is based on the classic 1888 August Strindberg love, lust, class and the battle of the sexes play, but this time transported to the 1920s and a lot of new characters added to the original three-character play.

Can you tell us a little bit about the message you want to send with Miss Julie?

By changing the setting to the ”The Roaring Twenties” when the right to equality and voting were gained by women, it felt interesting to adjust the theme of lust between classes to be focused on the lust for power by the power of manipulation.

What in your opinion makes Miss Julie a great film?

In the play the actors tell the whole story by dialogue and monologues. In this film the actors text is stripped to minimum and instead the story is very much told by the eye of the camera, supported by the scoring and sound design. A non-Swedish speaking person can watch and understand the film almost without reading the subtitles. I believe that’s why the film has been so well received here in the US.

The Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. 2015 has already been ongoing for a couple of days - what do you think of it so far?

It’s one of the oldest International film festivals in Southern California, with such a wonderful amosphere. Festival Director Jim Koenig and all
the people involved have created something very special. The screenings of the Academy submissions from Denmark, Iceland and Norway have been fantastic. This weekend I will watch Finland's submission and "Force Majeure" from Sweden, as well. And of course attend the screening of "Miss Julie" on January 24.

Did you always know that you wanted to work with film and entertainment? What brought you in that direction?

I’ve always been fascinated by telling a story, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the best authors, actors and directors at The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Sweden. Then the step to making drama feature film was natural.

What inspires you in your work?

It’s always to the tell a story. On stage together with the actors and the audience. In film together with the actors and the cinematographer.

What happens next? Are you working on any new films?

I am working on a new project with a really strong theme. And this time the film will be in English and set to target an international market.

“Don't let the time slip away. They're only going to be this age for a very short time,” says Kendall Roclord, photographer and owner of Roclord Studio Photography, located in Pasadena's Historic Theater District. His children, both Swedish citizens, attended Svenska Skolan in Santa Monica for years.

Today's parents are very active and have busy schedules. Many people make the mistake of delaying having professional photography created for their family at regular intervals. They end up missing important stages of their children's growth. “I've had clients call me when their kids are coming home from college on spring break,” laughs Roclord. â€œThey've put off having portraits taken literally their kids' whole lives!

They realize if they don't do it now, the kids may move away and they'll never get another chance!”

While that example is extreme, it's not uncommon for overwhelmed parents to miss the first two years of their baby's life, when it comes to high-quality photography. “That's really kind of a shame,” says Roclord. “During those first two or three years your baby changes rapidly from cute to cuter to unbelievably adorable! If you miss that, it's gone and never coming back!”

It's super important to snap a lot of shots with your phone. When your kids are little you should be taking at least 50 shots a day with your iPhone. But, as cute as some of those shots are, they're no substitute for professionally created photographs for your wall. At Roclord Studio you will not see the traditional family shots with everyone wearing matching outfits, lined up in a row with forced smiles on their faces. “I never tell anyone to smile,” says Kendall. “It's my job to worry about how you look, not yours! Your job is to stay connected to how you feel and just relax and have fun!”

Breaking tradition

As enjoying a ”fika” is part of the Swedish culture and tradition, a little outrage occurred during this last week. Entering probably the darkest and coolest months some new trendsetter had his take on the traditional ”Semla”. By transforming the single most important pastry this time of the year into a wrap is surely daring. What do you say? Pro-tradition or an A-for-effort?

Saying "yes" in a different way

The Brits earlier this month found out about how Swedes from the northern parts of the country have their own specific, a bit bizarre, way of saying ”yes”. Instead of uttering the simple phrase of ”ja” as any other Swede would do they choose to quickly inhale through their mouths. Don’t believe us? Check out the video the newspaper The Mirror themselves posted on their webpage.
