AFTER 90' REPORT

JANUARY 2015 EDITION

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

With the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015™ on the horizon, 2015 promises to be an exciting year for our game in Winnipeg. At the same time, the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association continues to make changes based on feedback from our members in order to make our league and tournament competitions better every year.

Here are some of the initiatives we’re working on now:
  • The WYSA board voted recently to create a new player subsidy program that will see us reinvest money back into soccer so more children from lower income homes can afford to play. Stay tuned for more information on this great initiative.
  • Recognizing the huge demand for new soccer tournament options, we’re planning to introduce a new summer tournament in 2015. Tournaments are a great way for players to face competition from outside the league plus it helps to raise additional revenue which keeps player and team fees as low as possible.
WYSA has some fantastic major sponsors in Cambrian Credit Union and Boston Pizza, but there’s room for more! With our website, social media, newsletter and numerous events, we reach thousands of families on a regular basis. If your company is interested in backing youth soccer, please click here to contact our Executive Director, Carlo Bruneau, for ideas on how you can help support youth soccer here in Winnipeg!

Yours in soccer,
Adam Dooley
WYSA President

WYSA GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE

The Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association has struck a Governance Committee which will begin meeting soon to deal with a number of important issues. The committee will be composed of WYSA board members in addition to representatives from our district and community centre membership.

The most pressing need for us on this front is to revise our constitution and by-laws to reflect recent voting and delegate changes for members of the Manitoba Soccer Association. Please click here for the MSA's recently adopted by-laws.

We are committed to having an open discussion with the youth soccer community about these and other changes.

The Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association has donated another $25,000 to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, the net proceeds of this past summer's tournament!
