Permaculture SA - News and Events

Hi Again,

A few more things to share since the last newsletter a couple of weeks ago.

Bushfire Recovery Permablitz
at Daniel Aquilina's permaculture property this Saturday, Jan 17

As you may have heard Daniel's farm at Cudlee Creek in the Hills got
burnt-out in the fires.

He and his house are OK but most of the sheep and virtually all the property
were burned, including the dripper lines in his orchards (about 300 trees).

He is desperate to get water and mulch back onto what is left of his fruit
trees so that will be a focus, but there is much to clean up.

If you can help please come to 138 Hollands Creek Rd, Cudlee Creek from 10am
this Saturday 17 Jan  with food for morning tea and lunch. We will bring a
hot water urn. A couple of trailers with 4WD utes would be handy. Also
wheel-barrows, an assortment of tools for digging, spade, mattock, gloves,
scissors, bucket, energy and loppers for pruning burned branches, tools for
irrigation installation (we'll be working with mainly 19mm poly). Daniel has
organised dripper line and  I will organise drippers and other fittings.

He is keen to sell the approx 20 Wiltipoll sheep that were saved. These are
a breed that shed their wool in summer and regrow it in winter, so they need
no shearing and very little other care. They tend to have an average of more
than one lamb per year and are wonderful grazers, but Daniel has virtually
no fences left so cannot continue to look after them. Meanwhile he is
handfeeding them on hay brought in from elsewhere...so  any spare hay would
be useful.

The weather forecast at the moment is for a cloudy day and mid twenties.
Come equipped with sturdy shoes/boots, sunprotection,  gloves, water bottle
etc

The turnoff to Hollands Ck road is pretty much in Cudlee Ck near the CFS
station, so go slowly and look for  it

Daniel can be contacted on 83892203

Survey Prize Winners

To encourage responses to our recent membership survey, we offered two prizes of a years Permaculture SA membership to randomly selected respondents, one member and one non-member.  The winners of these prizes are (drum roll) Ashley Spain and Arthur Hay.

Congratulations Ashley and Arthur, and thanks to everyone who completed and sent in the survey.  We have people analysing the responses and they will share what they find with us soon.
