Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!
"We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now."
We held our first garden group meeting of 2015 last Wednesday, and it was great to see some familiar, and a few new faces!
One of the big topics we covered was our spring kick-off event. The kick-off represents the garden's reopening, the return of regular garden work days, and is an opportunity for SW neighbors and friends, to meet, learn, and help grow some healthy food. So go ahead and mark your calendars, the kickoff will be Saturday, March 21st, 11am - 4pm.
Planned activities include:
- Planting the communal beds
- Face painting
- Healthy food demonstration
- Garden clean-up
- Planting in re-purposed items (shoes, purses, etc.)
- Introduction to composting at the garden (including, how to do bokashi composting)
If you would like to help with any of these activities, reply to this email, and you'll be connected to the right people.
If you would like to help create the planting plan for the communal beds, please fill out this Doodle for when the most convenient time would be for you to meet. No prior experience is required - we'll cover what crop rotation is and its importance as we try to select the best vegetables for SW taste buds!
That's it for now,
see you in the Spring!
Putting into your mouth what the Earth has grown is perhaps your most direct connection to [it].
