I2B updates

What we've been doing to inspire the youth....

Alternative action sports by Chris
-I2B Year-End-Skim-Jam 2014- We ended the skim clubs off last year with a skimboard competition at Clifton Beach in Cape Town. What a great day. Thanks to Handsdown Skimboards, Christian Surfers Strand and SkimCity in Florida for supporting this event. Everyone were so stoked about the prizes especially the kids who won new skimboards.

-The I2B YearEndCup 2014- The skate clubs we ended off with a skate comp and sleep over at the I2B skatepark. This was also the Christian Skaters gathering for the Western Cape region. Thanks to all the sponsors for the great prizes and everyone who supported this annual event. We hope to see you all end of 2015 again. Thanks to my wife for taking great pics, you can view more photos here: I2B YearEndCup photos.

-Clifford Viljoen getting baptized- This must have been one of my highlights in 2014. One random day Clifford Viljoen, a hero in the South African rollerblading scene, arrived at the I2B Somerset West skatepark with a pie and coke that he bought from across the road and wanted to enjoy it next to this skatepark that he saw from a distance. I grew up rollerblading in the Free State, looking up to Cliff and the other rollerbladers from Joburg. So Cliff and I never knew each other, we just knew of each other. Cliff is the only rollerblader in South Africa that can say he received a monthly salary for being on the Pro Team of a boot company. Very few people in the world can say that in fact. After being pro for about 6 years Cliff dropped off the rollerblading radar around 2004. Now one can understand what a surprise it was to see him pitching up at the skatepark in September 2014. He wasn't rollerblading anymore and he was also at a very low point in his life. His road from then till now is just a miracle. He chose to start living his life for God, he got baptized, he is back on blades (and killing it) and he is also using his music talents currently in New Zealand to glorify God. I'm super pumped to see what the road looks like ahead for this childhood hero of mine, Clifford Viljoen.

-Christmas Breakfast Party

-I2B Macassar luanched- In partnership with the Macassar Jesus Bende, we had two skate events in Macassar and then we launched the I2B skate club beginning of this year.

-The other clubs we launched beginning of this year to run with their own coaches from their own communities using equipment that I2B supplies are:
I2B Belhar                          I2B Kleinvlei                       I2B Bonteheuwel

-Strand ramps burnt to the ground- Sadly the ramps that I2B built in Strand two years ago were set on fire and the metal sheets have been stolen. Going forward we will rather build ramps with concrete in open public areas.

Athletics for people with disabilities by Fanie

-Tembaletu School leavers Farewell- Encouraging the learners of Tembaletu to keep on working hard after school, trusting the Lord.

-Fairwell and planning weekend at RPC Riebeek Wes with the team-
Suzanne Ferreira (Fanie's coach) organized a great weekend to celebrate the year of 2014 and plan for 2015.

-Maties Parasport TID Camp- HSPC organized a development camp through Stellenbosch University for some of the young athletes of Western Cape where some of the more experienced athletes of Maties helped coaching them. Myself and Anika Pretorius helped organizing the camp alongside my coach and Wentzel Barnard.
