The majority of the field for the inaugural United Greyhound Racing Daytona 550 Invitational should be familiar to anyone who regularly reads the Inside Lure. We have featured almost every participant in Saturday's race in our newsletter over the past couple of months! We enjoy reading, watching, and writing about these great greyhounds and it will be amazing to see them compete against each other.

The race features some of the hottest greyhounds running around the country for one evening of dueling in the sand.

#1 Husker Magic, representing Derby Lane, will have the ability to show off her brilliant early speed. If she hits her break she can only say, "bye, bye."

#2 Storm Control, fresh off his He's My Man victory at Palm Beach, will have to add typhoon or hurricane to his name in order to blow this talented field away. He likes running from the front and the inside part of the track is his preference.

#3 Penrose Lobo, the recent Matinee Idol winner also from Derby Lane, will try to play "catch me if you can." This mid-track runner will really have to hit his break.

#4 Mac's Bonita, WVGOBA Sprint Champ representing Tri-State, will make sure she has her early speed shoes on and be ready to roll.

#5 Lee Opera, representing Jacksonville, is a classical runner and a supreme performer on the JAX racing scene. She does not have a lot of early speed in her resumé. She will always try to find a way to be in contention for the win.

#6 JS Speedypebbles, Palm Beach, started her career with a bang by winning eight in a row. She likes to rush and keeps on running, preferring the inside.

#7 Atascocita Act, the Gulf youngster, is a late addition replacing kennel mate Atascocita Gray. His opening act will not be much to see because early speed is not in his card. He will be making a cameo appearance late.

#8 Boc's John Luke, campaigning against the best of the best at Bluffs Run, has a big advantage over the field. He's had two official starts and two victories over this oval. He draws the outside where he can excel with his explosive early speed; his speedy paws raining sand on his opponents.

Good luck to a stellar field!

Penrose Lobo wins Matinee Idol--heads to Daytona for 550 Invitational

What a race by Cal Holland kennel's Penrose Lobo in the 31st annual Matinee Idol stakes. The 27-month old son of Rhythmless x Penrose Ralene rocketed to the lead and extended his winning margin by six lengths stopping the clock at 30.36. Lobo's winning time tied 2002 All American Dodgem By Design's winning time in the same stakes.

It's time to put their A game on. Albatross, Arkans Tt Gator, B Lucky Luigi, Ws Sprang, and other top-notch competitors will try to be the top eight to advance to the final of the Sprint Championship next week by taking care of business tomorrow afternoon at Naples-Fort Myers.

Albatross, an Inside Lure favorite, was featured in our newsletter several times during his time at Palm Beach. We look for great things from him in this championship.

He's My Man winner, Storm Control, heads to Daytona for 550 Invitational

B & B Racing Kennel’s Storm Control was in complete control of his destiny as he “rained” supreme in the finale of Palm Beach Kennel Club’s $50,000 He’s My Man Classic. The champ covered the 545-yard Royal Palm Course in a splendid clocking of 29.52 seconds and returned a respectable $10.40 to his solid supporters.

Who will it be, TMC's Sweety Pie or Chasmo's Octane holding the winning Best Bet Derby trophy when it is all said and run?

48 runners will be going to post on Friday evening at Orange Park for the first round of the 2015 Best Bet Derby contested over 660 yards.

Flying Facepaint

He did it again!

Flying Facepaint not only posted up another win, his 16th straight and his 19th in his last 20th starts, he probably gave the most determined effort during his elongated win streak.

Breaking from the far outside 8 box, Facepaint was in quick command of this effort. That’s not to say it was going to be easy my any means. Sure he dominated the run to the turn, like he always does, but from that point on was when it got interesting.

Heading down the backside he was in easy control, as the nearest threat was 3 lengths behind him, but as they got to the far turn, that lead was slipping away.

Catch Flying Facepaint go for his 17th straight win in Orange Park's race 11 Saturday night!

"Shippers"

Today we will discuss shippers or greyhounds that move from one track to another. There can be a number of reasons for kennels to do this. One reason could be the greyhound is struggling at a major track and the owner feels that the dog needs easier competition. Another reason could be the running style of the greyhound does not fit the configuration of the track. Sometimes an owner may feel the greyhound has staled off at one track and a change of scenery may wake them up. One final reason could be the greyhound has excelled at a minor track and the owner feels the dog is ready for stiffer competition.

This can be a very profitable angle if you are aware of the quality of the greyhounds at each track. The "shipper" may be taking a huge drop in class and be an excellent bet and overlooked by the other bettors. Conversely, a greyhound may be taking a big step up and may take a few starts to adjust to the proper level. Look for this angle and you may find your wallet size increasing.

Following the 7th race of Saturday's afternoon card, Palm Beach will be holding their annual Super Bowl Pooch Predictor Race! One greyhound will represent the AFC champs New England Patriots and another the NFC victors Seattle Seahawks!

The greyhounds have correctly selected the winners of 13 of the last 18 Super Bowls!
