The month of February is a time when the Phoenix Alumnae Club focuses on the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity core value of Philanthropic Service to Others. Last year our Philanthropy Phebruary efforts resulted in 759 hours of volunteer service from Pi Phis, friends and family! Can we beat that this year? Absolutely!! We invite each of you to take the volunteer challenge and pledge to participate in at least one volunteer opportunity! There are so many to choose from!
It all kicks off with volunteering at the Waste Management Phoenix Open from January 26 – February 1. Our philanthropic journey continues with a month-long Champions are Readers (CAR) literacy program at Brunson-Lee Elementary School. We also continue our regular monthly volunteering at UMOM New Day Centers in the book room and at a monthly Read to Me evening, and assisting in the Birthday Book Room at Brunson-Lee Elementary School.
We’ll send Philanthropy Phebruary out with a bang!! We are so proud to be hosting the Phoenix Fraternity Day of Service Signature Event on February 27 and 28! We will be giving away 20,000 new books that will go into the hands of children in need. What an impact we will be making in the Phoenix community and the lives of children!
We hope that you will accept the Philanthropy Phebruary Volunteer Challenge and join us! Please continue reading below for details on each volunteer opportunity and links to sign-up.
At Pi Beta Phi we believe in the power of reading. One child…one moment at a time…one life changed forever.
Waste Management Phoenix Open
The Phoenix Alumnae Club volunteers on behalf of the Phoenix Panhellenic Association (PPA) who in turn receives funds that are used for about $25,000 in scholarships to Greek women in the state of Arizona each year.
Thanks to all who have signed up to volunteer at the Waste Management Phoenix Open! We have met our goal for the 2015 year as set by PPA! Come rain or shine we will see you at the Open beginning Monday, January 26 – February 1.
Champions Are Readers (CAR) Literacy Program at
Brunson-Lee Elementary School
The CAR program runs for the entire month of February with a total of eight sessions that are from 10:45am-11:30am. Brunson-Lee Elementary School is located at 1350 North 48th St, Phoenix, AZ 85008. There is ample parking and the school is easily accessible. Volunteers are needed for each of the eight sessions below to read with the children and complete activities based on what they read. The children love having a special “reading buddyâ€! If you want to see the direct impact you can have by assisting a child with their literacy, this is the opportunity for you.
