January 19, 2015
As we enter 2015, I thought I’d take a few moments to share with you some of The Planning Coalition’s proudest accomplishments as well as our plans for the coming year.
First, we are so excited to support the launch of South Shore’s very own magazine, the South Shore Current (spearheaded by the Planning Coalition’s own Yvette Moyo). The Current will undoubtedly serve as a connective force within all of South Shore, and can help to support local causes and businesses. It’s an honor to be a part of its growth, and we thank everyone for supporting it!
Dedicated Volunteers
Yvette Moyo, Attorney Jeanette Foreman, Anton Seals, Julia Perkins, Linda Greene, Michelle Lugalia-Hollon, Paulette Fitts, Rosalind Mustafa, Julia Hunter, Keiana Barrett, Sharnice Martin, Konora Maxwell-Mason, Don Rysheed, Ann Marie Miles, and Eric Rogers
Financial Supporters
James White/Deborah Harrington, Susan Motley, Don Watanabe, Michelle Bibbs, Michelle Lugalia-Hollon/Polk Bothers Foundation, Michelle & Ryan Lugalia-Hollon, Larry Sharpiro, Konora Maxwell-Mason, ICE Theaters, Maurice Rabb, and Heather Parrish/Pierce Family Foundation, Bobbie R Pledger, and A. Anne Holcomb
As well as, a special special thanks to Mary Steenson for raising the funds so that I could attend my very 1st Neighborhood USA Conference, where she won the neighborhood of the year award.
So, what now?
The Planning Coalition welcomes Exchange Ideas, a monthly community meeting held at Chef Sara’s Café, to our team. Since the Founder William “Billy” Powers decided The Planning Coalition has a sustainable model that will ensure its long term survival, Exchange Ideas has hosted a forums with Senator Jackie Collins, CTU President Karen Lewis as well as Mayoral candidates Amara Enyia, Bob Fioretti, William “Dock” Walls, and Jesus “Chuy” Garcia. We have ambitious plans for Exchange Ideas in 2015, and part of those plans are to introduce some fresh faces into the mix. On that note, I’m so excited inform you we now have two newest hosts of Exchange Ideas: Ameshia Cross and Chasda Martin. Ameshia and Chasda are two dynamic and passionate individuals who are ready to steward Exchange Ideas into its next phase. Be on the look out later this week for more on Ameshia and Chasda, as we gear-up for February's Exchange Ideas.
With that being said, I’d like to thank all of you for your continued support and resilience. We face many headwinds, from many directions. However, with a community as strong and vibrant as South Shore, the question is not if we can confront overcome those obstacles, it is when.
Sincerely,
Val Free
