Tax Legislation Update
Last month, we asked you – our advocates – to call Congress about important tax legislation, which would allow Oklahoma family farmers and small businesses to receive tax breaks when donating product to food banks.  Due in large part to your advocacy efforts and calls to Congress, the House and Senate passed a one year extension of these tax provisions.

While we’re pleased Congress passed a temporary extension, our hope was that the House of Representatives would pass H.R. 5806 – a bill that would have permanently extended the deduction.  While the bill failed to pass, we extend our thanks and appreciation to all five Oklahoma House members for voting in favor of the bill.

Senator Lankford Volunteers
In December, Senator James Lankford volunteered and assisted families at the Moore Food Resource Center.

“I had the opportunity to walk around with several families and see the operation of the Food Resource Center, and how the organization helps families meet that initial hunger need,” said Senator Lankford.  “It’s a big deal in our community to take care of our neighbors.  This is how it is supposed to be; neighbors taking care of neighbors and watching out for each other.  It’s a pleasure to be able to walk alongside families and the Regional Food Bank.”

Hunger Action Day
The Oklahoma Food Banks will be hosting Hunger Action Day at the Oklahoma State Capitol on Wednesday, February 18th.  The three hour event will bring together food security advocates from across the state to address issues facing hungry Oklahoma families and encourage policy decisions that fight hunger in our state.

Would you be interested in attending Hunger Action Day?

Yes, I’m interested.
No, my schedule will not allow.
No, not interested.

Thank you for lending your voice…because it takes more than food to fight hunger!

Best wishes,Whitney Danker
