StatLab is excited to announce its spring lineup of workshops! As a newsletter subscriber you're seeing it first, so register now as space is limited.
We'll be offering two data visualization workshops: Intro to Graphics in Stata and Intro to ggplot2, the popular R graphics package. We've also created a workshop specifically for undergraduate thesis writers, Data Analysis with SPSS for Thesis Writers. Other topics include generalized linear modeling in Stata, principal component analysis and exploratory factor analysis in SPSS, tree-based methods in R, and social network analysis in R. We're also offering a workshop on selecting a statistical test.

The U.Va. Library has a 30-day trial to SimplyMap from Geographic Research, Inc. SimplyMap is a web-based mapping application that enables users to develop interactive thematic maps and reports using demographic, business, and marketing data.
Our trial includes access to standard and premium data packages with more than 70,000 variables related to demographics, employment, real estate and housing, crime, businesses, consumer spending, and health. The premium data packages include: D&B U.S. Company Database, Nielsen Financial CLOUT, Nielsen Retail Market Power, Nielsen Consumer Buying Power, Nielsen Claritas PRIZM, Mediamark Research, Inc. (MRI) Propensity data, and Experian SimmonsLOCAL.

Do you need to use NVivo for your research project? If so, we have it installed on a computer in the Library Data Commons@Curry (302 Ruffner Hall). This computer is available to U.Va. faculty, staff, and students during normal business hours of the LDC@C and can be reserved for up to four hours a day. Reservations are encouraged to ensure the computer is available at a convenient time.
What is NVivo? It is a qualitative research software package that can be used to analyze data from focus group discussions, interviews, surveys, video footage, audio files, social media, and more. With NVivo researchers can deeply analyze their data using powerful search, query, and visualization tools.
